The dev's would probably prefer it if people pirated in VHF, so they've placed the transports at a level where piracy in a VHF is hard but not impossible. This unfortunately makes for an easy job when it comes to bombers. Bombers can't be nerfed in any significant way against transports because that would mean adversely affecting their anti-capital role.
2) A city costs more than a nuke, but the nuke'll still level it. Cost doesn't = survivability.

Then the devs should balance it against bombers, because I have been pirated by a VHF a total of zero times since 4.85 came out, and I can count the number of VHF piracies I dealt with in 4.84 on one hand.
Irregardless, this is a game, and games are supposed to be relatively fair, and I am sick and tired of playing this game and not having fun because the minute a jumphole at some chokepoint gets camped by a single guy in a tiny ship I am screwed and entirely at his mercy.

Actually, my Royal Liner has JUST enough armor with the Cap VIII to make it to most bases on a good day. Absolutely no strafe, but that means I can just Go To, turret and shoot and live long enough to dock. Moreover, no, shut up and delete it.
EDIT: Also, just so you all know, threads like these are why my post count is so high.

hate to say it - but you ARE a dev, eppy. - now, we do know that not every voice counts as much as any other ( the dev board is just a mirror image of the public boards ) - but i cannot remember you even attempting to speak up when transports were balanced.
i think unselie spoke up for transports some times. - and thats about it
and we don t really need to point out that the whole balance is a pyramid - with the bomber on top. - i think everyone knows it by now pretty well.
that doesn t mean that i don t think that you are correct there. - but i d expect you to fight a lot more for it where it counts. - you may be frustrated from previous fights for what you believe in - but giving up doesn t change a thing either.
edit: and yes - i ve also been fighting for ships that i consider precious to me - and quite often that resulted in quite some frustration. - but at least it shows that one cares.

Jinx, nobody traditionally cares when I try to Develop anything around here. "Oh, look, he made another ship, very nice, lol," and then I fade back into obscurity. Why would I bother speaking up when I know absolutely nothing is going to happen because the people in charge, whether they'll admit it or not, care more about their bombers than the rest of the mod? People expect everything to die to bombers. That's a given, and it's a stupid given, but somebody MADE it a given. On the main forums at least everybody can see. On the dev forums, not only will the people who matter ignore it, the general public won't even see that I tried.

Then I think I'll argue some more and help my post count.
Traders are intended to be cash cows. Not particularly aggressive, but bulky. Like real cows. When local terrorists try to tip the cows over, they roll or run away. Then you get ships like the Shire, which is... A cow with fangs I guess. Still a cow though (and the usefulness of fangs on a cow is debatable).
The other solution would be to use those Class 6 turrets for bombers and devise some kind of weapon that's brilliant against capitals and sucky against transports and smaller. The problem with that being, transports are - for their size and their speed - capital ships, meaning there isn't much that can be done.
I suppose a big solution would be to ramp up the number of turrets on the militant transports, and leave the passive/defencive transports as they are.

Transports should be cash cows and ego boosters for their pilots, not for pirates and lawmen. Small people should have to work in packs to take them down - one ship pulling out this giant wave motion gun and tossing out a '2 mil r dai' or a 'halt r die smuglar' is just dumb and unfair to the guy in the Transport, who probably paid between 70 and 200 million credits for his ship; he's just had all of his hard work rendered useless by a guy with one tiny, tiny ship and an abnormally big gun. People treat Transports like crap, but there ARE those of us who fly them as our main ship, and we'd like to stop being everybody's butt monkeys.
