Just take my word for it:

Playing a Molly while we have these lingual limitations is difficult.
Haha.

As a rule, though, if I have to use language, I only use language that is actually found in the game - and even then, barely. People are very quick to jump on the sanction-wagon about language, even if the NPCs use it, or even a character in the campaign.

It might open up some interesting parts of RP if we could swear, but that bonus would be negligible when compared with the havoc and destruction that it would wreak elsewhere, with OORP players and people who insult out of RP.

People clearly haven't been on a long night gaming session of Xbox Live. We 'cuss' and 'insult' each other all the time. And its hilarious! If you took everything someone said to you to heart, then you are the fool, grow some tolerance people.

When it comes to the racism part, ummm hello? We're all racist? The English are racist to everyone, the Scottish are racist to the English, the Irish are racist to the English, the Welsh are racist to the English.

Point is, we're all racist, we just don't admit to it. If you can put up with insults and racism in real life, you surely must be able to in a virtual community.

As Jeremy Clarkson, who himself admits he was picked on as a kid, as an adult he thanks them! It helped him develop a thick skin and be able to use clever and/or colourful remarks about life.

Having indeed played the odd long night on Xbox-live I can safely say that the pre-pubescent out there have waaaay more colourful language than me and mine ever came up with. hence the tendency for interesting and baffling insults. I'm not sure I can even use the f-bomb as many times in an hour as they did (and I swear far too much IRL)

but then its not all about the 12yearolds. Alas t'is about every numbskull that has a need to just get nasty and we have all those pvp rules to prevent people getting nasty on each other so it kinda makes sense to have rules on swearing too.
of course it might not be so necessary if we ware all in RP and didn't act out of RP. Be nice, wouldn't it?

Have I gone off topic again?

If you put up with insults and racism in real life, you would get sanctioned too, by government. Depends on local law. Which we have here. A simple law: Dont swear!

There's two ways you could define language.

General usage. Using against some one.

Outcast hits his toe : AH F*CK! That goddamned hurts! Nothing wrong with that if you ask me.
Outcast meets Corsair player : Hey! Suck donkey **** you mother ***** **************. Is...Not so good.

So long as it doesnt get personal, what's the problem? And don't give me that 'poor kids' crap. I started cursing when I was 11. Look at some movies, play some other games. Walk on the streets. They'll pick it up.

It's easier to say "no swearing" then to say "OK, you can swear, but only when you use the words in this context and against these people and you can never say these words cause they're too bad and this this this.... etc"

Yes, many of us are probably mature enough to use this well. But many of us probably aren't, not to mention the people who don't read the forums anyways. It's much less work and hassle to just say "no swearing at all."
