What about when ship , bigger ship is moored on planet, base, battleship others players would see it as mooring near fixtures or close to base? Not just vanish
cause we are playing a game, - something people sometimes/often forget.
there is a certain "culture" of people crying out loud NERF THE OTHERS! ( and the others are always the bad ones ... while these people draw a very distinct line between us ( the good ones ) and the others ( the bad ones ) )
ships of all sizes need to dock everywhere, cause our whole system relies on that. - any further "nerf" to a ship type must come with a further buff. - we re in a state where we can either spiral down to nerfing one another until we re all nerft so its no fun anymore to play ( and once that situation happens - everyone ( even those that cried for it ) will insist that "this is not what they intended to happen" )
or we just get over it and allow the other players the same freedom that we enjoy ourselves.
and don t come up with realism - freelancer and freelancer disco is mostly an arcade shooter. - you choose your weapons ( ships ) and are offered specific advantages and disadvantages. - but we all play in the same enviroment.
however - i myself have proposed several times that ships of a certain mass or greater should suffer a percentage of damage to hull and equipment when travelling through jumpholes ( which is correct regarding to vanilla lore ) - and guess what...
it was not the bad powertraders in their big bad battleships that ruin the days of single honourable fighterpilots... but it was the official factions that stepped down on it. ( which is no critizism about facitions - it just says that it was those that care more about RP did not like such penalties )
anyway - ... attempts to restrict docking abilities of certain ships should not happen. - battleships mooring with a fixure remain in orbit. battleships docking with other battleships are just pulling alongside.
a little imagination is required of course... but i daresay ... as roleplayers, you do all have sufficient imagination not to think of a battleship actually dropping to a planetary surface like a rock.

I totally agree.

p.s. If any of you is so willing to do not see the caps disappearing when docked to the mooring fixture... you are free to spend 5 years of your life de-compiling the game code and writing a new graphic engine yourself (and if you do it... you still must hope that Microsoft will not sue you for copyright infringment).

When I think of a battleship docking with a battleship, I consider the two to be bridged to one another, not moored. Some things in game you cannot take out without ruining gameplay for others.
If it doesn't look right, like battleships docking with small stations, then just RP that it is currently moored with the station. In fact, if you listen to many stations in game when docking, they tell you either you cannot dock because of your size (Liberty Rogue Destroyer in NY is an example) or they tell you to "proceed to moor #"
And what of the ships that can't dock with planets? "Planet landing not advised"? Where are they supposed to go? Float in space and not land ever to get nanobots or bats?
Never tried to do it, hence I cannot be sure it's so bad; probably only Igiss is the one who know for sure. My guess is that the problem cannot be solved modding, I you really want the ships to do not disappear while docked to the mooring fixture you should modify the graphic engine and it would take a huge effort do recode it.
Moreover I don't think that Microsoft has released the source code of the engine (please, somboedy correct me if I'm wrong) hence... copyright infringment...

There are several factions which have no option but to use jump holes, regardless of their ship size. The Order, Corsairs, Outcasts, Zoners, Gallic Unlawfuls (council, maquis, etc.), so on and so forth. That is probably why your suggest was turned down, why should our ships take damage when we have no other option available? Unless you want to try and convince the devs to put in jump drives for larger ships as well.
