Im annoyed that NBC restricted what coverage there was, and some olympic stories I had to hear about from other people - like Shin A Lam getting getting cheated out of a gold medal.

But overall, was entertaining.

Well, I took in as much as I possibly could, and thoroughly enjoyed most of it. There were definitely some of the typical shady judging/officiating in things like boxing, gymnastics, synchro and even women's football (soccer). It's always a shame to see it, and what's worse is in boxing and synchro it's now almost expected. And maybe I'm just sensitive to scores/decisions that seem a little bizarre, but we Canucks got the short end of the slant a number of times this go around. Some of the sports I listed almost need a debacle as bad as the Sale and Pelletier figure skating thing some years ago - something so bad it can't just be ignored - to start a clean up.

On the plus side of judging, Tae kwon do brought in a challenge/replay system which did brilliant things for getting the call right. I'm not a fan of some of the other rule changes, but hey it's a sport not an applied martial art at the Olympics. And it was fun to watch :D.

All in all, I thought it was a great games. The atmosphere seemed just electric, and Britian seemed to just go for it all out and have fun which was awesome. It was also interesting to see some elements of the atmosphere that trace back to when the games were here (Vancouver) in 2010, despite the season difference.

Sure, there were a few baubles here and there (like scores being posted, then rescinded due to DQ where the review should happen BEFORE posting scores), but they hardly take away from what was really, really enjoyable to watch.

It's sad that, despite that replay system, favoritism can still make the final ruling.

All in all, it was a fun ride. Watching the closing ceremony last night made me a bit sad. I didn't even realize how fast those 17 days went by. It's a bit scary when you think about it.

Did you watch the Satoshi Shimizu vs. Magomed Abdulhamidov match?

Did you see the BBC documetary from last year, documenting how Azerbeijan had purchased two medals for the London 2012 Olympics?

Did you watch the badminton matches?

I mean really it doesn't require a lot of knowledge about sports to see what was going on, although IMO the badminton-scandal was as much the organizers fault for designing a really poor tournament structure, begging to be exploited.

Yeah, the scandals were my highlights:-) And Boris Johnson being crazy, Spain challenging "The Dream Team" and Usain Bolt running fast. Besides from that, I am quite happy that the Olympics are finally over, and that it will be another 4 years.

EDIT:

Do what we did, and give citizenship to a Kenyan. He held the 800 meter world record for 13 years, lives in Monaco and doesn't speak Danish fluently:)

Poor organisation doesn't automatically mean foul play. Not all bad judge calls automatically mean foul play. Sometimes, bad judge calls happen. Out of 17 days of events, I remember only 2-3 cases that seemed like foul play. That isn't a good enough statistic to be saying that the entire Olympics are rigged.

Edit: And BBC documentaries, please.

Aye, I agree. But the boxing one clearly was, the Azerbaijani hitting the canvas 5 times, the holding without getting warned in the last round, the referee getting sent home, and the win reverted to the Japanese boxer...

The badminton, it wasn't foul play but rather unsportsmanlike behaviour, promoted by a bad tournament structure. Still scandalous though :-)

EDIT: The documentary was one of the BBC's running "Newsnight" thingies. It was aired here in Denmark under a different name, so I can't remember the title, but I know the BBC aired it 22. September last year. There's a notice from BBC News' website regarding it, and I reckon if you live in the UK or use a UK proxy server you might be able to dig it up from their "iPlayer" archices.

Aye the badminton was more the athletes, and not the Olympic organisation. They got DQ'd for their behavior, so at any rate, justice was served...kind of.

Although again, ye, that's the athletes fault. Like that American that competed in Judo, he got DQ'd for marijuana usage. That doesn't mean that the Olympics promote marijuana usage Xd
