Jack just nailed it, especially with the Wife part.

I mean, if you think about it, if it's 'A word to the wise' then one may wonder why the wise would give words to the wise when the wise would already be wise enough to understand the wisdom the wise is waxing wisely about to the equally wise...that said, it still makes no sense for it to be 'A word to the wise' simply because why would the wise give a flying eff about wise words spoken by the presumably unwise?...because let's face it, the wise would automatically assume that any words spoken 'to' them instead of 'from' them would naturally come from the unwise who only run under the premise of being wise until the day they actually become wise by marching through time.
Now, what the f#%& was my point?
pffft! Nevermind. I'm wise enough to know idioms are for idiots...or am I?
Starting to sound like you're mixing up the words "wise" and "boastful". A wise man would listen to those around him, and not assume that nobody else in the world could come up with anything wise to say.
I'm 24, young and stupid. Moved out, owned a few cars, had a couple of jobs. I'm still fairly dumb though. :D

Nope. the words chosen were the ones needed. I'm making fun of an idiom...Don't overthink it.:P
