It sounds like you've got a dirty install. If you still have save games from the original, they may well be tampering with your current game. Back them up somewhere else if you really want them, then delete all the originals. You can't install Discovery over an existing copy of Freelancer, either. It has to be a fresh installation that hasn't been used for anything else.

Discovery will create a second install of Freelancer when it installs anyway, so you'll always have a clean, backup version of vanilla Freelancer you can use for other things.

Avg, and freelancer is exception in resident shield and firewall. I'm running the 4,86. Is that 45mb update necessary?
