I suggest you use your Rhino to mine Helium in the cloud behind Erie, and sell it on [CBL] Gas Compression Facility (Which is a player owned base near Philadelphia station in Pennsy) for 1,000 to 1,500 credits each (Base owners move the price up and down every now and again, but it's always somewhere in that range), which would allow you to make enough cash to buy a proper transport for trading within a couple of hours.
First thing you need here, is a money-making character so you can afford proper equipment for any other character you're planing to make.. Unless, of course, you're ok with flying poorly equipped Mk 1 ships.
Yeah do as Aerelm suggests. I do exactly that, then when I have about 2.5 mill credits its off to planet Pittsburgh where you can purchase the camara freighter for 1.8 mill or just buy a dromedary from the Zoner base (bethlehem station) in penn for I think, 2.1 mill. Both these ships have cargo in excess of 600 units. Make sure you have a little money left to trade, or just go back to mining helium for a while until you can afford a transport. Won't take long. Alternatively if you're patient, you can stick with the rhino until you can afford a transport, which is around 10 - 11 mill for a large transport with 2k cargo, dont buy the 1k cargo one for 6 mill, not worth the price at all. Then you're all set t o go out into the universe and get pirated

+1
But I guess the most of mk1 ships would be deleted in next version.
