Sure, it's not nearly as efficient, but it could be a good measure to take until we get an upgraded server.

While Hylke isn't right, most needed ever will be 2 GB of RAM. NO ONE will need 4GB + 512MB of RAM. My LAPTOP has 1 GB of ram, and I can run Firefox (takes alot more RAM than IE), Freelancer, EVE, Skype, Teamspeak, Xfire, AIM, MSN, Utorrent, FAM, and Itunes all at the same time.. Thats with 1 GB of RAM. Frame rate drops about 2 per second. Thats not that much. Thats what FREELANCER and EVE going..
BFH, you should be watching your processor speed. If you have 4GB RAM on there, than its your processor speed thats slowing you down, as 4GB of RAM would run BF2142, BF2, and BF1942 all at the same time..
I have 4GB of RAM(including flash drive), but my processor is 3 years old. 2.8 GHz Pentium 4 processor. So that could be it. But my laptop has 2 GB of RAM, built in, and the processor is a core 2 duo, so it's quite a bit faster.

what type of server is being used at this moment, a semi"normal" Computer or a traditional server...
if it is a computer and not a server you can even add a tool into the mod that when activated takes up about 2,5% of the client computer efficiency... believe me doesnt sound like much but works like a charm, have been running a game server for counterstrike on a Intel Celeron 466mhz 512mb SDram 40gb 10/100mbit NIC for about 4 years and never had latency above 40.... with 4 clients it can still hold up but every client extra made it work a bit harder. when using the power of the client to calculate some of the visual aspects all u really need is a pretty decent uploading stream and bandwidth to make sure you connection wont become a bottleneck...
Maybe its an idea just take a look into it... if not ill try to get some info on a few server expansions to make the server faster ^^ we just kicked out an old server with max cap. for 2x 2.4 P4 proz, 8gb ram and 6 hot-swap drives:)
Edit: Seems to be a bit off topic, if needed delete or move this reply somewhere else

I think what Vista is really doing with the flash drive is putting the Page File onto it. Basically using a flash-based hard drive to use as virtual memory. If your flash drive is fast enough, you will see a performance boost over, say, an Ultra100 IDE drive, especially if said drive is the only drive in the system. The benefits in this situation decline as SATA/SAS and RAID setups are introduced, especially when a set is dedicated for the swap file. (That last bit is an extreme example, as the smallest SATA drive I know for certain exists is 40GB)
Then again, I haven't really looked into what Vista does, but this makes sense to me.
(Goes to dig through the topics about the server...)
Remember, the increase in speed can depend on the transfer rate of the jumpdrive in question. Try to get a fairly fast one, up in the 256MB/sec range, or higher if possible.

If you play supcom, you need more than 2GB of RAM if you dont want slow down after there are 2000+ units on the field. I would have 4 GB, but some companies (Nvidia:dry:) cut some corners making their latest motherboards, so my computer is unstable with 4GB in....
I turn down all the settings to minimum and i see little difference bettween minimum and maximum on supcom so it must be the RAM... and anyway, there were issues with that game and its RAM management...
But with these USB drives, it makes a decent compromise. Not every old PC has enough RAM, or support for 2GB, but most PCs have USB drives. So it makes sense. Memory for the masses, but there are some drawbacks...

Sorry, but what's the difference between RAM and virtual memory? Is virtual memory just your paging file?
