People will always try to find ways around to make it easier for them, that's simply inevitable. There are no perfect solutions, but doesn't mean there shouldn't be any attempts to do something about it. Heck, I'm skeptical of this myself, but yet I'd like to see it being tried at least.
But then again, if it's something Canon can't tweak there would be no point in talking any further at all.
edit:
Quote:Isn't that sort of a Bounty Hunter's job?
The job is to hunt. Hunting doesn't equate to using group chat system locations. Sorry, Sirius-wide radars strikes me as powerplay. You're mixing job and means of doing that job. Do it inRP, do scouting, do intelligence gathering and so forth, ain't that part of hunting process? But somehow it's not - group chat system display is a no-brain thing.
If you wish to stop metagaming you can begin with yourself and your encourage your friends no to do it, me for instance; I would never know that theres someone in alaska if some other guy wouldnt sent me a pm "X guy is in alaska".
Apart form that, I think the devs have been working on it or something, taking the system par out, again I THINK, Im not sure
Indeed. It opens lots of RP opportunities. Scouts will be needed, patrols by navy and military will be more interessting, traders will need escorts, etc.
Isnt all these past changes to make the game more fun and interessting? Why not stop this metagaming method?
edit: personaly i dont use this either, at least when im on trader. BTW i like to find pirates, i try to RP with them. Wouldnt this make the inteligence service across Sirius be more needed?
If the Devs are trying to do this its awsome. At least lets try it
I support the idea, and am quite sure it will force people to role play a lot more.
But it's like saying to remove system chat, it can't be done. As far as my records go, they cannot change what Microsoft already made, they can only add more to it.
Else they would have made a 'local channel' in your chat window, remove system chat (or made it into a very long annoying command so people won't bother to spam in system chat), change NPC's voices where they won't address you as a Freelancer, ect. ect.
But some things can't be done, and I think this is one of them. (even though it would have been awesome)

we are not saying to remove it if thats impossible. just make an Icon for the location, "Unknown", "Signal lost", etc.

Super-duper-mega Sirius-wide radars, eh? Kidding me. Like I said previously, if it can be technically implemented it might be also that it could display people in the same system you're at and may be adjacent systems too. So there you go, a deep scanner. Oh yes, actually there'll be a need to do scouting and checking up on systems, rather than "oh, our dude is five systems away, just checked up my group chat window, let's go get him boys!".
Also "intelligence data sharing" aspect of factions interaction would mean a lot. Cooperate with your allies, pursue your friends to share valuable data with you.
