Out of curiousity, is there a statistic on what scanners are used in what percentage? Like the former API that gave out which ships were used the most.
I'll never get the claim this is for balance, when anyone can mount the equipment on anything. If an opponent has a BS scanner, and you don't...where's the imbalance? Can't buy one yourself? It always seems to me that because some restrict themselves, they expect everyone to do it for their behalf. I've seen many ships lately that are obviously main characters or highly invested ships using them, I use them on my similar ships. When anyone can buy and mount one, I can't see imbalance. It should just be a high-end scanner, available to any ship. The name was always more of a 'title' and with only a 2 k advantage it doesn't seem to require all that much more power to employ. I've even fought opponents recently using them on gunboats and transports (like I do) and the thought of claiming the battles were imbalanced because of it never crossed my mind. Last time I heard, the plugin for the nerf had been the cause of a lot of problems. That won't be the case now?
I made about 250 mil just yesterday alone off the event system (which has been a great event idea!). If you only want to fly snubs or freighters and not trade, and complain your opponents are smart enough to do so, why should that be the problem of the players that are willing to put in the extra effort?
Please, under the current system, point out an example of imbalance from using BS scanners that can't be solved with 'buy one for your ship as well'. People trade for these, what's the problem with that? The more ships that can use them the better. We all know you can miss someone by a hair in this game, so saving time and investing in cutting that margin of error down should also be an upgrade available for any ship. I never complained about this block when it comes to snubs but it still goes the same, and if a nerf might cause problems just to nerf snubs, its still not worth it.
Since the thread is related, I will state a small opinion of mine about scanners. It would be nice if the Spyglass Scanner and, perhaps, the Battleship Scanner, could function in nebulae.

Some nebulas are different and have visibility lower than 8k with Adv. Deep Scanner. Maybe get the Spyglass/BS ones to have between full range and 13k then? Something around this would be really cool, another reason to buy one!

I always thought that the visibility was cut down by a percentage, instead of raw numbers. Anyone can shed light on this?
It's based on percentage and can't be altered individually without a plugin. For example, the area around the destroyed gate in Minor cuts scanners down by 100%.
The way nebula's scanning ranges work in this game is horrible. People can see further into the nebula from outside in comparison to people from inside of it. If anything, lowered scan ranges makes starting interactions harder and escaping one easier.
