Ah I can see it now: The barge sitting in front of manhattan. New player comes in and sees it. New player gets awed by the sheer size of the ship. Then 2 falactas come out of no where and the barge goes bye bye in a mere 20 secs. Welcome to Discovery.
Been here since Discovery 4.77 (lurk mode engaged)
Zapp Wrote:I have recently met and discussed with Atalawohisdi the trader that flies the Caribe. Just so everyone knows, I engaged in Sigma 13. He flies through half the system before going back to New Berlin, where he cruises from one side of the system to the other, hugging the sun as close as he can. All the while, he flies near Battleships trying to scrape me off. I finally send out the white flag, and move back to Sigma 13. However, it was a ruse, and he bit. Knowing his trade route, I interdicted the trade lane and the chase began anew. It ended, an hour after it began, with me retreating, out of Countermeasures and getting very irritated.
He kept boasting how he has never been caught; I'd like to see him beat until he begs to pay, then beaten some more.

Sounds about right:PHowever, this could make an excellent base ship for the Bowex Explorer wing... Possibilities... Maybe a Barge near the Bretonian end of the Gailia systems, with continual Bret CTrans supply ships keeping it working and fighter wings resupplying off the barge so they can head off into the unknown?

No. But I meant that as in, ships could go out, get beaten up then run back for a bat/bot restock as well as dropping off any prisoners/interesting objects they may have picked up during their travels.
My idea was this ship is that very sort of thing--players who want to play shipping or mining companies need a ship like this. Others with deep exploration and espionage centers would too and then criminal elements who need a loot cache until they can fence things.
Jinx did a really good job proportioning the model--love the attached transports and all.
' Wrote:What's the cruise and impulse speed of the barge? I can envision stubborn powertraders using this ship for trade routes that consist primarily of jumpholes and have little or no tradelanes. With a cargo size of 25000, as long as they can complete the route in less time it takes for 5 routes with a adv. train, they will be making a better profit. And to think about it....that's a lot of time, and I'm quite sure if the barge had normal cruise speeds it would easily make that trip in perhaps twice as much time, reaping muffinworths of money.
you can't "disable" cruise as I understand it. It has a forward impulse speed of 10kps and reverse of 5 (unless they messed with it). It won't dock tradelanes and manuevers horribly with a length longer than the biggest battleship and almost no strafe capability.
Hehe, guess what i imagine. Only one barge monster will be held for longer, the JC one. Whoever might purchase another one will soon use it to salvage itself. Its a pure rp vessel.
I have also voted for no thruster, no cd and no cm. It wouldn't need a cm anyway, since engines are spread so widely. Its invulnerable to every cd.
Unfortunately it can dock at tradelanes atm. Don't know how far Jinx is with upscaling.
