Well putting restaint's on what ship's "indie's" can use to me counter's the name of the mod."""DISCOVERY"""
IE how the hell can you "discover" what you want to fly, or who you fly it for? If everytime you want to "discover" how a new ship is you have to go find a faction that uses it/apply/build up rank/apply again to use said ship/Discover you hate it........ REPEAT....REPEAT....REPEAT....screw this i quit!
Now as for indie's/faction player's ooRP It goes both way's. I have played here since disco first poped up,(not always on forum) Playing in several faction's,(some just died out) Playing with several indie char's.
The point of this game is to have fun. Explore/trade/police/pirate/mine/hunt/kill and anything else you want to do with in the "SERVER RULES".
So all i got to say is if you play an LSF indie? respect the LSF faction, and vice versa. Give and take on both side's.IE faction player's do not say we make all the rule's follow or die, and indie's do not run around ignoring the faction. Help each other out. (LSF is just an example not meant to point finger's).
All in all. this is an RP server, and people both indie/faction have a right to play the way they want to. If you do not like another's RP? OH well ignore said person. If it is against a "SERVER RULE" report him/her. But pls people faction and Indie alike. CHILL THE FRACK OUT! Let's play and have fun.If not soon this will go the way of many other server's who were all faction, and died. I do not want to see this happen.
why, indie complains because they'd need to sell their shiny BS they aquired without any RP so they may show off their immense toy to everyone who cares about it (that is, the newbies in new york).
WOW, I just read 50 posts in this thread and this is what I got out of it:
The whole spectrum of a well balanced argument from many differant points of view.
This is what makes a community!!! The GOOD, the BAD, and sometimes the UGLY. IMO Disco is going through a growing pain. I am new here. Only been with the Server since the end of March. Got online and lifted from Manhatten in that Starfea for the first time. Rose to orbit to find about 20 ships outside of all levels. Checked the system com and counted 45 in New York. Said "Hello New York" No responce. Did a quick trip arount the NY race track listening to the system chat. Herd about the Forums. Logged off and spent the next few days going through the forums. It was my feeling that from when I started to the end of May there were quite a few Indies in game. From about the first of June till now there seems to be a large influx of people on the server.(summer break or some such stuff) I'll be the first to admit that when I first got here my RP is not the best but I hope I am coming along. I am more inclined to watch and listen and I think the following (correct me if I am wrong):
Discovery 4.84 is a great mod. (thanks Igiss for putting it all together and on a server and all who helped him.)
The Server Rules are what we have as a Guide for playing.
The great ADMINS are the Judges and/or Mediators of the Rules. (Thank YOU for your time)
The Factions are composed of those that wish to take RP to a higher Level.
The Indies are either those that are trying to learn the system and RP accordinaly, those that wish to be a subset of the Factions, wish to stay independant with no loyalty to any faction and may be a trade or communication conduit to nuetral or waring factions, or are just PVP players with no RP.
It is my opinon that if a player is playing a Faction subset ie. House legal or outlaw ID and tagged, should also have the responsibility to at least follow the factions lead. As far as the orginally post is concerned, I feel that if there was a good RP reason to enter Z21 being already tagged and ID'ed as an LSF should have been 2/3 of the RP.
Ladies and Gentlemen this is a game. (One heck of a good game) Lets not be stiff about it and have fun and say hello once in a while.

The Discovery community is one body of sorts.
There are new pieces being added to the body all the time. Some of these new pieces are positive additions to the body and are integrated into the community and grow.
Other new pieces are not adaptable to the community. They will eventually wither and die out.
The larger problem seems to be that some of the otherwise healthy parts of the body become so focused on the rejection of the non adaptable ones that they begin to kill off many of the healthy additions in the process.
If this continues this situation combined with the natural losses could potentially kill off most of the body unintentionally.
So the question is how best to balance rejection of the non compatibles without hurting the rest of the body in the process.
For my own part, I judge each indie separately as I meet them. Treating them as a group is a mistake, as they are no such thing. Some indies are very good, and I've had a lot of fun. Some aren't so good, their RP is a little weak, but they're at least trying. These are usually the new players who are like I was a few months ago. I still have fun with them, and try to pick up the slack of the RP and demonstrate through example how it should be done. Finally, there's the indie who make no effort at all. Usually, they stick their own head in the noose themselves and end up on the sanction list. No need for me to be nasty there at all.
As for factions, I see their role as leaders by example. The indies should show some respect for the faction, and the faction should show respect to the indie. Keep in mind, though, that respect is earned, and the faction and indie both need to make an effort to be worthy of that respect.

I think this is the root of what everyone is trying to say. Whether someone is in a faction or an indie, they have to earn their respect. A PvPing Dreadnought in a faction is still a PvPing Dreadnought, and a RPing Dreadnought that has no faction tag is still an RPing Dreadnought. Everyone deserves a chance to earn respect, and a lot of us have been guilty of not giving them that chance, even without realizing it. Myself included....
[8:32:45 PM] Dusty Lens: Oh no, let me get that. Hello? Oh it's my grandma. She says to be roleplay.
[12:49:19 AM] Elgatodiablo: You know its nice that you have all that proof and all, Bacon... but I just don't believe you.

I believe I'm not too far from the truth, am I?
And that would be highly constructive post by someone firmly in the faction camp there... and yes, you are far from the truth.
sorry Xing - no offence mate but that kind of attitude is exactly part of the problem - I'm an Indie, i fly a capsip that i did acquire through RP and yet here i am, pretty firmly in the indie camp.....
Though i do work with the factions my indies are sided with, and i try to meet them halfway.
These kind of posts do nothing but stir up flames...
