I'd wager there is a reason Cannon is wanting to upgrade the forums. I'd wager it has something to do with how the admins interface with them. From a user standpoint, what we have is great.

Why not update it? I heard from Gheis that our threads WOULD transfer.

I believe Cannon said it was easier to hack the forums than the server at one point. Not that you'd be able to do anything on the forums, but still. Might be a security thing or maybe it's just to fix bugs and get new features.

The forums also occasionally have trouble with large amounts of users connecting, so an upgrade might increase the board capacity.
Unless that's just a matter of the hardware powering the forum. But newer forum software might better use the server computer's resources.

Is that due to bandwith or this forum software Q_Q

Could be either or. Older software isn't optimized for newer hardware, and thus our current forum isn't making the most of our hardware.
A bandwidth issue isn't really something that can be helped through a software change, but the additional security measures and user features that a new board offers would be worth sacrificing the inexplicably-worshipped "blue solution" and these hideous emoticons.
