If this is complicated thing, well...
I didn't know about fam and switch windows and all that. I figured you could it all in game.
I'm talking about laving ore floating in space
leaving two ships unattended with one not being a combat ship with a crapload of money floating all around it
then switching to another ship which may or may not be where you put it.
yeah. now I definitely think it's fine to leave in. It's already complex enough. take this away what do independent miners do?
so I recently started exploring Coronado. I must say you're all doing a wonderful job.
so I recently started exploring Koeln. I must say you're all doing an amazing job.
some time ago I explored Rousillon. Impressive. Particularly the music on the planet that was a nice surprise.
so I recently started exploring Omega-55. LOL... NOMADS. LOTS AND LOTS OF NOMADS. SHOOTING THINGS. I GOT THE HELL OUT OF THERE. (and I was thinking, jeez I can't remember what that one was from the news. I hope I don't run into a nomad system)
recently started exploring Omega-41. what did you guys do to the star? that new effect there, that's impressive.
but the system of solo-mining as you described struck me as risky as well as tedious. but I dunno what kind of climate it makes on the server.

Words of Wisdom. Game mechanics allow a lot more credits per second for indies because making money involves avoiding interaction with pirates and military robbing you. It is rather bigger issue for the hauling only trade factions then the mining ones but it is indeed a issue. Tagged ships are meta-gamed as hell and it is logical to have their own ID with better bonus- if USI can get own ID with nice huge gap allowing abuse I am all for giving the mining factions own IDs with better drops, however skypefriendships are a bit above that, the same way that IMG ID is above all other mining IDs so deal with it or make skypefriends.

Yes and that's the bigger problem here, there is no incentive for cooperative mining. It would be nice if the mining mod did something like double the rate for filling another ship's hold. Most of disco is about adding penalties though.
Its just unfortunate that waiting for a miner to fill your hold has the same negative affect on the credits-per-hour ratio as filling it yourself. The only thing that is "more effecient" than solo mining is to work with a miner who will put 5k ore in a pile next to him while you are in transit. Unfortunately that guy faces the exact same risks as the solo miner (pirates, ore thieving NPCs, etc). Everything is penalty here.
There is value in the interaction and RP you get from working in a team. That value is produced outside the mod.
Here the real Reality Check:
It is bad for many reasons.
1: F1er alone do unfairly more credits then trading. By Design mining should be group activity- hence the credit boost.
2: Lone Snub F1er have less chance to get pirated compared with lone Hegemon.
3: Lone Miner have less chance to get pirated then group of miners while he got the same profit as group- no point to group mine.
4: Non-tagged Indies have less chance to be pirated in general.
5: Smashing factions without full IMG like mining loop( ups the IMG is the only faction with such-not OP ID at all- the proposal to reduce the IMG ID cargo capacity was "somehow" lost in translation between 4.85/6...) IMH players are great people and I like their presence on the server a lot, however the ID is OP.
Why to fly ore one way and something else less profitable other way when you can just be IMG and haul ore both ways without even single hostile house when other miner IDs must deal with such?
6:Why there is no Official DHC or Kruger? Back in the time when mining was implemented both factions were fairly active, now there are tons of powermining F1ing indies instead and no factions to contribute to the Role Play environment.
7: As effect of this facts- it encourages to be lone RPless IMG indie because it is the best way to make money.
I bet that there are many other reasons. This are the few that come to my mind.
There is simple solution- make the ore to stay in space 3 min and auto-ban the IP of the F1ed ships for 4 Min.
Remove the IMG ore loop or nerf their ID to 4300 cargo. There is chance for the first to be implemented but you can forget the second- I officially vote for Dev in each faction so all could have good things.

I know but it was long time not official since Crsfg and Wolfspirit stepped out.
On paper the mining factions should be the best money makers in Discovery hence having small or dead mining factions shows that something is wrong in the system.

While I agree that F1-mining is pretty bad, your solutions could accidentally punish people who aren't actually F1-mining.
Instead of punishing people who F1-mine, how about rewarding people who don't? As previously suggested, how about increasing the rate of mining when filling a target's hold by, say, 25%.
Or have ore commodities dropped by a person have information (invisibly) tagged to them, so that if they are space when the person dropping them disconnects, the ores disappear.
It could be done something like this: (Incoming pseudo-code)
Code:
//Create a dropped minable commodity array for players, which would be cleared when a player F1's, has no dropped minable commodities, or timer for dropped commodities expires. This array will be represented by oreList
//minableCommodities represents a list containing the minable commodities. Other terms containing two conjoined words with capital letters in the second word (naming tradition) can be assumed to represent Variables or Parameters, unless obvious as otherwise.
Event - Player drops commodity run labelCommodity droppedCargo = Dropped Commodity droppingPlayer = Player dropping commodity
Of course, this is just a quick type-up out of my head, without actually writing the code, but I imagine it could be done something like that. It would probably be even easier, since I imagine freelancer already has a way of keeping track of things, and the only thing that would have to be coded is removing things that are tagged to a player.
For people who think "that's way too complicated" - No. Trust me, to any programmer, what I typed above is very simple.
Anyway, this is just a simple solution that I believe could fix the problem, if it were to actually be used.
That way a person can still mine and drop Junker-style while waiting for an approaching barge, but can't F1-mine for oneself. Since there wouldn't be a large amount of ore commodities in space at the same time, keeping track of the last person to drop them wouldn't strain the server.
Sure, to get around this a player might have another person hold the ore while he switches to his hauler, but at least this forces the player to interact with other people, and odds are that other person will probably want him to fill them up afterwards, too, so that even people who tried to "beat the system" would still contribute to roleplay in a way.
And as far as the IMG ID goes: Well, there is a difference in bonus. IMG gets 3x bonus on many ores, while other mining factions get a 4x bonus on a few local ores. For example, DSE gets the best platinum, silver, and copper bonus. BMM gets the best gold bonus, and is also capable of mining niobium. IMG may be able to mine anywhere, but they're also about 33% slower than your local miners. Additionally, IMG tends to have less haulers available, while DSE, BMM, GMG and Dauman can easily bring in haulers from their own player faction, or haulers from other corporations that are part of their house, who are happy to roleplay with allied miners while simultaneously earning great amounts of profit for both parties involved.
In fact, I actually create miners and haulers for every faction; I find that it's the best way to get to know the unique feel of every faction. The quickest way to find lots of people to roleplay with is to have some sort of way that they can profit from you.
Your solutions does not beat the pro-multiboxers unfortunately when mine do,I wont spoil more, nothing would be changed anyway.
