I have a 54mbps connection and usualy have a ping of about 84. Ever since all these server crashes started I've been getting red lag symbols nearly constantly. Before I was fine with only the occasional yellow lag symbols appearing in fights.
Im on dial up in the US and have always had pings between 300-500 and quite often play with steady yellow lag and occasional red, but I've always been able to at least play the trader if not engage in big battles.
I've been away about a month and a half and today tried to play. Lag was absolutely the worst it's ever been for me... more than 20 min just to get into a trade lane...better than 2 hrs to fly a gunboat from ny to gamma.
Nothing has changed about my connection at all.
Im wondering if it's the number of players on the server as that was the only thing different from last time I had time to play.
The funny thing is, my internet miraculously changed today, with pings about 20-30ms and sometimes about 10 seconds of light lags... Lots of NPCs around me and I wasnt laggy... Yay!
well, what can i say - i have 100mb ( or something like that, downloading a big file like 1 gb usually take 5 min ) ( university glasfiber connection ) and no lag:laugh:. doesn t improve my aiming though...
Today has been extremely laggy day, it seems from my point of view and others. I have committed suicide with out premeditation in Sig-19 and been blown away by a hiccup (one shot it seemed) in O-minor. Not sure how to remedy the situation from my end.
We do differential a backup of player files every 2 hours. The differential backup takes like 10 mins. But in the midnight (server's time - GMT+1) a complete new backup is done (we keep backups for 30 days back). The database is so big and contains so many files, that it took more than 2 hours to complete the full back up. When I logged on the server today I found 4 backup procedures running simultaneously, and the server was almost dead...
The planned player wipe should help and I also updated the procedure slightly, so it's not so time consuming...
Just out of curiosity... I read what you mentioned about your ISP but are unnecessary temporary files slowing the server down? Has it been defragmented recently? I'm just trying to troubleshoot, it's nearly unplayable right now.
