if it starts to harm others though - it should not be done. - and the sad conclusion is that we keep nerfing the generic stuff - at the cost of players who actually play the generic stuff. - so that the generic stuff becomes so unattractive that no one in their right mind would use it.

But really, how much IFF's can be used both ways, to make your lawful/unlawful character look like unlawful/lawful, respectively?
So far, only Zoners and Junkers come to mind. Freelancer IFF was always double-edged, most of the others have rephacks towards lawful/unlawful factions.
Might as well rule it out, that Zoner (and Junker?) IFFs are for certain ID's only, or something similiar - i.e., working around only those problematic IFFs.

Fation doesnt like you using their stuff? FR5 and your nerf increases.
Actually these two (with a small tweak) combined aren't that a bad idea for a matter of fact. Quite a point to consider.
As far as I know, IFF has to match ID unless the ID is a generic one. If the IFF doesn't match the non-generic ID, the person in question may be subject to sanctions. Correct me if I'm wrong.

This was always my understanding, and it is how I run my characters. Non-standard characters get SRP, which is what I thought that was for.

I vaguely remember something about that rule being related to Pirate IDs. Not anymore, though. Anyway, my understanding about the ID and IFF is that the combinations themselves allow for a more varid roleplay. The ships are a matter of debate, since as previously noted, some ID/ship combos can lead to odd results as the formentioned zoner outcasts and unlawful bottlenoses.
The thing is, though, there is that we used to fly any combo until the technology chart was introduced, making it sanctionable to have any out of ordinary combinations like that. It was done because of the problems mentioned above. However, the reason that we have technerfs now is because people missed the freedom and thought that the server population might rely more on ingame consequences rather than rule-related ones.
Remember we used to have zoner BW transports flying around with salamanca turrets because transport ones were shait? Yeah, we shot those. Because they were obviously friendly with the corsairs.
Point here is that you have all the means to stop these people. BHG can issue a decleration to shoot down all non BHG bottlenoses, or, even better, collaborate with the house navy to make them illegal in house space.
Same with Zoners. The Outcast factions seem pretty forward with those problems- ''they give you trouble, shoot them, we don't care.''

The thing is, I can't find that rule any more.
Sadly neither can I, so an admin comment on this would be appreciated.
