But..

You honestly cannot look me dead in the eye, with a straight face, and tell me that is not Discovery now.
Forget my flaming, sarcasm, and subtle trolling, I'm being serious here. Lets put the forums in the backseat, they're not even part of the server at this point.
You cannot tell me that without being extremely delusional.

Perhaps I missed the golden days of disco or something, but, I haven't noticed MUCH change in the 3 yrs I've been here.
There seems to be some sort of nostalgic notion that, at some point, furry 12yr old battleship captians cordially greeted arrrgh matey pirates and nary a shot was fired....

The change wasn't a massive, sudden change over time. The people who RP moved out, the people who barely RP'd turned into all of the packs abusing loopholes to PvP on a whim, and the population died down.
If even ten new people who actually dedicated time to roleplay moved in, it'd feel a whole lot nicer.
Maybe I was just blissfully unaware of the situation in 4.84 and early 4.85

Ok...fair enough. I will admit that interactions have gone down for me, but I assumed that was because server pop is lower now than it's ever been.
There is still a fair amount of rp to be had, if you go to the right places.
If you dislike pvp, I'd avoid New York, Tau-23 and Omega-7 when possibru.
* Bootsiuv is slightly distraught at the seriousness of the above post, but only slightly....only slightly.

True, last two times this week when I tried to RP more then 3 min before shooting in 1v1 situation with some nature enemy of my char I got ganked because in the both situations the said opponents called for help in Skype, after the first time I didn't got amused and carried on, but after the second time next day I decided not to give this type of players third chance, sadly 90% of the players in the moment roll in this way.
Dropping 2 lines and guns blazing is more practical way to deal with natural opponents as it seems now it is not possible to have RP encounter that does not includes shooting, I realised that people nowadays use RP only to stalk in order to have upper hand in PvP.

I can. PvP is still an integral part, indeed possibly the purpose of the server, but it is mixed evenly in with roleplay.
I'm not talking about five pages of text and talking out your differences roleplay, but the very basic act of playing. a. role.
The corsairs of today act like corsairs should. The LN of today act like LN should.
The pirates act like pirates should, the traders like traders, so on and so forth.
Is it executed well? Not always.
It is all the top notch level of quality the top tier roleplayers (among which i count myself) provide? No.
It is consistent? Sometimes?
But the players play roles. Role that involve shooting things, yes. Sometimes roles that involve shooting a LOT of things. But that is the basest definition of roleplay, and something this server certainly does have in spades.
In the very first formative years of Disco, such was not always true.
Factions were imported out of the blue, and then written retrograde into the lore.
most roleplay emerged from the pvp in a linear fashion, instead of the cyclical push and pull we now have between pvp and rp, one feeding the other.

To that I can only say....
Indeed.
Roleplay quality has been consistent for much of my time as well; i speak not from experience but the vast multitude of stories i have heard from the veterans who've been here since the beginning.
But at some point in Disco history, there were alien slave cyborg battleship captains mass-missiling non-roleplaying 5k's doing the 6k harris run while the Guys from Battlestar Galactica and the Asgardian gods tried to stop them.
Let me put it this way, if the ORI, the NORP, or the Yoshiwara had been made at the beginnings of Disco history, they probably would have been made official, got their own ID and bases and stuff.
A time when the creation of something was more important than it's originality, or it's plausability, or it's keeping with things such as continuity or sense.

I have also chosen to neglect the fact that the information on there, specifically the peices which I am criticising, were infact not writen by the individual I am trying to insult.
Nice try, bucko.
Also, in saying what you do not do, you have not answered the question in any way whatsoever... If your purpose is not to do something, you may as well not exist.
