Nah. The server has always been about RP justified PvP. And it always had people who glorified RP to the point where, if you didn't write for an hour with someone else on the server you didn't RP. This "RP used to be better/worse" kind of stuff belongs in the same category as "disco is dying" doom calling. The truth, even though some people refuse to admit it, is that without PvP this server and game would be dead, and that 99% of all RP is about war, power struggles and resulting PvP. The only thing that changed is how strict the rules are in regards to people's RP.
Also on topic: RoS when it was formed as an OC faction brought to the server the very first properly organised and competitive group fights. It put the Outcasts on the map for as long as it existed there, at one point they nearly every known person in the community within the faction, and right before the event where they moved out into the Omega systems concluded, they had another event where they would raid Sirius: 35 people turned up from the RoS side and it was completely glorious, even if we didn't get to shoot anything because all of RoS's regular enemies were on their RoS character. It was a nice faction which brought a lot, contributed a lot, and left a big legacy. Its glory days may have passed a few years ago, but it will nonetheless always be remembered by the people who enjoyed flying with or against them, as well the haters.

GG RoS.
It was one hell of a faction. I couldn't have said much better myself.
I liked seeing RoS Sabres destroy every Corsair in Gamma a long time ago, no matter their size. However, this RoS died a while back, as in my eyes it turned into a faction that only existed as a status symbol for its leader, and was only used as a toy for said person which he simply shared for use.
Not calling names, but it's pretty obvious, after all.
That said, seeing it go at its current state is for the best. Old RoS will be missed, new RoS not even a little bit.

Quoted for accurate fact, and because the bolded part is something most people tend to forget. Combat, violence and shooting is nothing short of perfect, realistic roleplay between two hostile factions. Talking does not equal to the level of roleplay. In fact, I'd say talking too much to something which under normal circumstances should be shooting you would start bordering on bad, unrealistic roleplay.
Bottom line is that PvP is the backbone of both Vanilla Freelancer and Discovery Freelancer .

This, I had fun with the RoS, 2-3 years ago. Lately, I only saw one RoS sitting in Caymin (with the exception of the Gamma raid yesterday)
This thread has run its course and gotten (somewhat) off topic, closepls
There are a lot of factions we could add to the "will be missed" category, RoS is just the start.
Myself?
The Old Guard.
Damn if we didn't serve up the perfect explosive cocktail of high-brow RP and take-no-prisoners PvP.
Usually you have to be a Zoner faction to be able to say "We single-handedly reignited one of Disco's major conflicts and made a significant amount of the server population either cry with joy or raeg in fury!."
That, of course, ended with the Great Dublin Die-off.
I still haven't forgiven Cannon and the Admin team for that.
(evil eye)
gone four years, first day back: Zoners still getting shot in Theta :|
