I've seen a lot of people complaining about Elitism towards new players, but I haven't seen anything regarding the opposite; many of the players that do log hours simply do not put any stock into RP whatsoever.
I play Disco because I enjoy writing, I enjoy developing characters, storylines, and helping to further said storylines with other like-minded people. I enjoy many of the faction backgrounds and I like how many of them interact with one another.
What I don't like is stopping a trader in the lanes only to have it silently engage me. I don't like running into a multiboxing trader/miner duo that simultaneously disconnects when I get within 7K. I don't like having the server defined by daily cap-engagements where the concept of any smaller ships being anywhere near is completely done away with just for the sake of posting bragging rights later on.
If those things make me into one of the elitists that was mentioned before; fine. Maybe I am. I can quite frankly say that I've pondered abandoning the server multiple times over. I have other games to RP on that would never allow the things above, and if I wanted to engage in a massive daily battle I would just play Dota.
Quote:3-The tons of 'unofficial' factions
Yes, I agree, there are many of them; often flying under the exact same Faction ID. Mine, however, is quite literally the only representative of its type. We don't have the numbers/activity to become official so until then, this is where we'll be.
I'm not leveraging any blame on the admins and devs; I appreciate the world they've put so much time and unpaid effort into creating. Moreover, elitist or not, I'm more than willing to offer whatever advice and help I can to new players, if only to prevent them from abandoning the server or becoming like the players I described above.
I came back to Discovery because I knew that it was wounded. I didn't come alone. I brought Fourteen people with me. One of which hasn't played since 4.85 was New. I'm not going to let the Community and game that I spent playing since 09-10ish, go out quietly.
Mass, but very careful advertising once the server is rolled back. No use to attract new peeps if they will lose everything.

The lack of population is simple to explain, the server is just dull. One cannot win or lose anything in the game-this makes the game similar to campaign type game.
The typical new players manage to get train in 2 days and cap in 5 days after that they leave in the next week realising that their cap and their one week grind are kinda useless.
1: The adrenaline spark is missing. The Players are overstacked with cash, they have all of their toys without any chance to loose it. The exclusive stuff is reserved for skypefriends, there should be option to allow unique ships for all players.
2: PvP is not balanced at all.
3: Lack of Purpose- there are tons of equal ships/skins/clones/guns/equipment with different names, there are almost none specialized ships or guns or equipment.
4: Everyone can buy everything, note what happens with rare stuff like old IDs, Snacs and the barge- I sold one for 10b. Note Chenzo's Deflier guns too. So much fuzz about 2 damn guns that one single player uses- imagine what could be if there was wider availability of rare stuff.
5: POBs- they are fine example of big fail- they are the real game changer, the thing that allows to gain something more then the casual dull stuff, yet their brilliant opportunity is not used at all. POBs serve no purpose after a couple months in-game:
-Equipment: The stuff produced in them is not lost or damaged in anway, so the server population demand on it is already satisfied.
-The Money/Mining usage was already satisfied without POBs, they just made the player overstackment with credits even worse.
- Blocking choke-points does not work on normal/non-noob pilots since the platforms shot no CDs.Note that even so there was 30 topics about Molly base showing that this is the right approach.
-Bases are indestructible becuase Devs fail to implement the vital part of loosing something in the game.
In general fixing the Economy and PvP is easy and doable. It requires little to no coding but tons of legwork and grinding.
Sadly the devs are not doing this- they do cosmetics like implementing more skins clones of guns and ships, more useless systems with more useless infocards and more useless stations etc. They balance everything equal and dull excluding the vital option to sacrifice something in order to gain something.
There is no option to risk your credits/ship/base/whatever in order to get cool ship/guns/equipment etc.
The fault for the low activity is on the Dev team more or less. They fail to offer interesting things to players.

Or, surprise, surprise..
People are incapable of rping anything beyond "Hi I R PIERAT, 2 miL plZ"
and "U r wilL NeVur taek Me Aliev PierAt"
As someone who comes around to roleplay but I'm only met with distrust/paranoia if I try to write up a proper post that (in the case of pirates) gets me shot for whatever reason.
I think it's more the players.
Especially the negative ones.

Wh-

What.

Yes, clearly what this server needs is some mindless grinding to hold the Disco player's attention. To hell with roleplay, I'm just here for my 5K Transports and BS.
So I suppose the question here is whether we should actually change something before the rollback hits and we start advertising again.
