Um, guys, are some of the thread posters here not aware why Gallic system removal is totally impossible?
Every time we have a pet hate; say, Gallia, Zoners, what will have you, the primary idea is removal. The problem is that we, the community (and thus the devs latter on) need to cater to everyone, that means considering the guys flying next to us as well.
A unique ship... If you want a unique ship then Rp the hell out a weird and quirky turret/gun layout, or maybe something you couldn't power with the normal ID you'd be Rping for. That's the point of SSRP's, to give people an incentive to get something they wouldn't normally get. Plus why penalise freelancers? You can't favour faction players without freelancers also being alienated.
Due to these thingies called ID's (you may have heard of them), 75% of Disco's ships are highly faction specific, and there's a ship to cater to every possible niche. Unusual layouts deserve unusual Rp, and that's the fact of it.
However if you want a 'special ship' because it's rare and thus a vanity tool, that's not really an InRp reason. Also imagine the vast gameplay headache we would have if everyone was flying personalised craft; it'd be chaos.
Disco already has a lot of ships that rarely get used, so go SSRP one, don't demand 'new stuff, new stuff' on the principle that it's new. C'mon people, you just GOT a mod update, isn't that enough?
Also barges are still here, they're just rare as hell, as they should be. Also take a look at Gallia's vast Rp lineage before you start typing 'Omg, I got killed by that NPC battleship moving my Shetland out of Leeds, Gallia sux', or the equivalent moan.
Back on topic.

Sorry, wasn't clear what I meant Re: gallia. I know it can't be deleted, but the actual STORY is a bad idea. One was left behind... and now wants revenge. ok, fine. welcome to the gankfest (and there's plenty of posts complaining that playing a gallic char is not much fun as the whole of the server turns up to pew you. If the storyline was that popular, then every man and his dog would be in a gallic char.
SRP's are back? since when?
Barges are for sale again? ill take three please.
more variety in combat, more surprises, novel and inventive ways of making other people explode - yes please.

That's the whole problem. If barges were for sale everybody with the creds to do it would obtain 9999+ of the cashcows and have nearly a 1bill per hour of gametime credit income. Moo.
Remember, barges break the balance, so if you want to use one the accompanying Rp must be huge, the use inventive. What about using one as a snubcarrier for instance? Barges possess five hangar bay slots. What about Rping as the mobile factory/deepspace exploration ship it is an Rping in the Lonllicrons? I'd love to see a barge doing that.
And yes, barges are for sale - buy one from another member. You could also Rp one and see where that takes you, as with other SSRP ships.

Apart from the fact that they're deviating from the thread topic... not really. I'm well aware of the issues with the structure of the Dev team and the organisation of the development cycle, leading to perceived and/or real issues with the mod itself. I'm a proponent of change for the better, but asking it to happen overnight is a bit too drastic. I hope that by delivering smaller, more frequent updates (which the Dev team is now actually capable of doing), the mod will begin to feel a bit more dynamic than in previous versions.
Well, if the dev team finds themselves a new models lead that is willing to spend the shitload of time neccesary to maintain changes to an ever growing list of models, then I'm willing to cede my position. Just keep in mind that once you enter a new ship (or solar) archetype, you can NEVER get rid of it without breaking mod backwards compatibility. So you'll be maintaining specials until the end of Discovery as a mod, even if the player or players get bored of them after 2 weeks.
Govedo: Without control of the mod, you can't do balance and quality control, so your suggestion kinda falls apart right there. Multiple people writing storyline for a region without taking the universe's storyline and interactions with other regions into account sets you up for some major indiscrepancies...
