Actually the Solaris update is justified and i second that, since Solarises are actually meant to take down fighters not whole gunboats when gunboats with primary guns just won't do anything.
Because keeping <495m distance from a target that is much faster and more agile than you is totally doable. Right.
If I have to be that close to a fighter/bomber in order to shoot at it I may as well use Cerberus turrets. At least they do some actual damage and I could wipe the floor with any unfortunate Solaris-boat.
I haven't bothered with GB's for some time since the dropped the speed. That was the first mistake. Ok, so after that they could still be used to defend transports or allied caps, but made piracy with them very difficult, which was their best use.
So if that's what they did to the Solaris, then yeah, seems they only want people using GB's against other GB's, or with others against caps. If that's the case they should just remove the gb solaris and make you only use basics/faction gb turrets. Since there's little point of having a pirate or FL gb anymore you might as well pic a faction and use their turrets. Of course, that right there why I don't use one. Not to mention if a big fat transport can sail away from a sleek gunboat leaving it in the dust, something definitely is wrong.
Ah well it' s like anything else... takes time to balance stuff out... quite the daunting task. So I'll keep the funboat I have and just deal... I'm more of a trader anyway.
No enterprise is more likely to succeed than one concealed from the enemy until it is ripe for execution.

Well i must say that i've never liked pirating Gunboats, but ye' for the sake of solo pirating you must have either a bomber or a gunboat.
But i cannot say pirating in a funboat is difficult, difficult is for a trader to evade such fire coming from a Gunboat and counter any attacks if it's possible and counter attacks are only effective against fighters/bombers.

Also, the basic ones got nerfed too. Their range is around 990 m, if I recall it correctly.

Yeah but have you done this lately? Transport will fly away, and yeah sure you can cruise to keep up, and while your weapons are recharging, they keep on flyin away...its not so bad if you have a fighter/bomber with you. but solo in a GB, well maybe if you catch a trader in the perfect spot, otherwise you'll just cat and mouse it to the nearest base. that is if roleplay is involved at all and ya don't just start shooting as soon as you see a transport.
