Hm, a thread started 12 hours ago, counting 120 posts now - worth reading? Better not.
Anyways, I admit to run from a battle if the odds are heavily (out"double"numbered or caps/multiple GBs entering a snubfight) against me/us. But most times I'm too lazy to dodge +20k, which is much more exhausting than dying anyways. And not even satisfying at all (to have survived).
The fun part starts when you've entered a fight which you could never win because of the enemy's high number and/or amount of caps, then kill one or two of them whereupon you escape again. And then have them shouting at you: "Run chicken!"
When it comes to blues, people get pathetic. I could live with "blues" being removed.
earlier version didnt have A) lags , B) stupid scanning range that enables npcs to follow from 8km, C)We had 4 hours of pvp death, and even then people died more often, so i think its obvious that people are afraid to die because they feel they dont have any chance to even the odds when a lag comes in - hey, I do the hit and runs myself - it feels sad that im losing because of a lag, so naturaly I escape to fight a fair fight.

This thread isn't about escaping out, but rather docking while under fire. There is no difference between that and having the ship explode other than the message displayed.

When it worth dying?
I mean, there are a lot of reason, when you or another player run to base, just not to give that blue msg.
Say some reason when it worth blue msg from your side.
You don't waste your time in dodging for a good 30k and get to the same end-consequence? You are dead.
You asked "why are people afraid of dying in a computer game".
Nobody is afraid. Not more than you anyway.
The real question is... (let me rephrase the first time I said that) why would you say something like that?
Well, you told us how people docking looks to you.
Let me tell you how your question, (and some people who behave like you in game) look to me, and to most of the people I play with (I know what they thing because I talked to them about it many times).
You look like you want to believe that people are terrified of you. Like... really (RL) terrified of you... in a game.
Come on man...

Pancakes, lets consider this:

I don't really. I don't think most people even change their face from complete poker while playing. And when they dock or die, they most likely either log off completely, or just choose anther character and chit-chat (or fight or w/e) elsewhere. I have no illusions regarding that, what-so-ever, but I think that if someone prefers to thrust for 30k, at times even 50k while dodging than simply die off... I must either terribly miss something, or just wrong with my assumptions, no?
I was addressing a what I thought to be a problem. Maybe I am acting wrong. Maybe the community has changed its mind-set.
Regardless, I find it amusing that I am regarded like some top-tier pvper, flattered even, but I am miles away from that.
EDIT: Also, behave like you in-game? Have you encountered me in-game to judge how I act?
I think theres a new element in town, for instance Im not scared of docking if I don't see anyone in my scanners ( lets say its 8km range ) - nor I care if theres a person with a bigger one, as long as I don't see anyone on my scanners, im legit. So perhaps ive docked when people actually had me on their scanners - even if I didnt see them because I have a smaller one. If you are talking about docking infront, or close to the pvp - I can understand players doing it with official/none official faction tags - but as indies.. no idea.
This is a phenomenon that has existed since the discovery gaming community was playing vanilla to get their kicks. There's nothing new about that. Empathy is key here: understanding why people flee and taking solace in victory instead of ganking, and opting for sportsmanship instead of trolling will make the server less demoralising and a more fun place to play; thus contributing to solving another problem we're all concerned about regarding activity.
