Consider this. Server is hosted in EU. Discovery is the most played Freelancer mod.

Waw, then how are all the players playing here day in day out?
The server goes down for 3 days and everybody loses their minds. Why not, instead of whining at each other and raising US/EU/NZLand wars, we can wait for the admins to make a decision, many who speak here are not actually aware of most of the working of this "specific" server, including myself. So instead of trying to show our genius when the admin team is in need of some encouragement for their hardwork, we can just be patient till they solve all this, and people willing to doante can do that in the thread.
And kudos Veygaar, not many people come up with something generous like that, in todays society.

#deletePoBs? Or atleast reduce their quantity.
Those shiny toys won't affect the server performance much more than the standard ships. First i would remove NPC's (Missions excluded) I know, the server would be empty without them. But think about it, they are mostly useless and annoying.
I think those PoB's are mainly responsible for this lag. We have 89 PoB's at the moment. All of them consuming tons of goods in a short time.
We should take into account that we deactivate the consumption of certain goods which would also improve the server performance a bit.
A drastic solution would be to limit PoB's, lets say to 60 or 50 maybe?
There is another thing. I always had lag if i swiched to the equipment or commodity dealer on a PoB. Maybe there is something wrong in the code?

This. Sadly USA proved not so good place for such thing, considering how powerful are the local copyright laws, the lack of public control of the law enforcement and state structures, and may be many similar legal issues.
EU law give more room and liberty in Internet compared to the US- law. The Patriot Act practically allows the state to do whatever it wants with the server without any accountability if it was in USA. I could expand even more but since I does not want to go political I would just give you a hint if you care- compare Germany Enabling Act with Patriot Act.
Having laggy server that is no fun to play is the same as having no server. Cutting down useless gimmiks like engines for example or other similar stuff that creates load is not bad idea.
