I really hate anime. Lazy drawing, lazy animations, lack of depth in characters (they always have the oddest motivations to do senseless stuff), the whole kawaii thing is so derogatory to women (I mean it reduces women to be pure objects-of-desire for adolescent boys, it's objectifying and demeaning), ludicrous plots and sexual themes that only adolescents or severely messed up people can identify with.
A few blockbusters I did like. Akira and Ghost in the Shell comes to mind, but its not like those themes haven't been covered already a million times better by writers such as Asimov.

Lazy? I wouldn't say so. More like different style. As for reducing women - there's plenty of television that does that...so that's nothing new or exclusive to anime. My favorite works have been the stuff done by Hayao Miyazaki and Studio Ghibli - none of the sexual stuff, a lot of good-themed, imaginative stuff, and a lot more in-depth character development.
Well I am of course generalizing here, and I am aware that there are some anime stuff that is super critically acclaimed, I am just using broad strokes
What I mean by lazy animation is that quite often, characters will not move their extremities while talking, they wont change stance and in general display very little change in facial expression, save for (much easier and thus cheaper) animation of the over-sized eyes to compensate.
In the cases where bodies are actually animated while conversing, for instance, movement is always extreme and devoid of the subtlety and grace that signifies human beings. If you look at live actors, the greatest ones are those that can bring out nuances, portray a person's body language realistically with subtle gestures and so on - it is just that much more difficult and challenging. The animation in most anime is lazy and I am quite sure it has to do with means of production / keeping costs low when anime initially flooded the Japanese market.
And just because a lot of TV shows also reduce women, it doesn't make it any better that anime do it on such a consistent basis. Two wrongs don't make a right and all that.

You saw nothing then... I guarantee it. If you are just a troll, shut the f**k up. Seriously. On the other hand, it's the fault of the distributors, I have seen a lot of anime that is not even popular, yet it is way better than all the crap they deliver to US. It is fault of the West that they think animation is for kids. So, bring up Naruto, Bleach, censore it up - because for kids. Here I can agree I just HATE mainstream anime s**t that is offered by official distributors.
I must AGREE however that some anime does as you called "lazy animation", because it depends on the creator or they just simply can't afford it (however, in dot Hack//Sign it made me annoyed, so I stopped watching it after 7th episode).
Give me titles for AT LEAST 8 titles for the anime that are not Dragon Ball, Bleach, Naruto, Ghost in the Shell, .hack and so on - then we'll talk. If you can't, just shut your mouth tight and let adults talk, little boy.
I have a small curiosity, maybe the resident ...ajem!! anime lovers can answer me, why almost all caracters (i've seen exceptions) has no japanese facial traits? thats something that always found curious how most characters looks like mediterranean/caucasic/slavic
all said, i'm not precisely an expert on the matter, but is a conclusion i've arrived to see.... in my country anime is quite popular an you an find someone who shows you different stuff than usual
