Yes,there is a Gallic Mining Faction. Gallic Metal Service is the NPC one. There are a few Player ones, the oldest and most active being GMS|.

I am afraid not everybody is fixated with fighting. The enemies that track down Gallic Corporations as soon as they step out of Gallic is long and illustrious. We would be just major blue messages for all and sundry if we turned up in force in Leeds. Heaven forbid that we try to get back to Gallia. Yes GMS| does mine in Leeds (not often granted) some of the other Factions that do, don't use Tagged Ships.

I do get that. The shelf-life for your average BMM operation in Dublin is about 10-20 minutes before Mollys and other pirates bring it to a halt and either kill everyone or force them out the system. That said, protecting / chasing miners could give the GRN a bit of a shot in the arm as well.
They've already been logging more frequently to chase Bowex and the 343rd around, so more activity draws in the system can only be a good thing. Having 2 economic pursuits - mining and trading - as well as military raiding, could potentially make Leeds a really fun, interesting place.

Granted but I think you will find that GRN will log for the Fight and that is it. In the same way that BAF very rarely ever log to guard Bowex Convoys, GRN will appear, out of the woodwork (and promptly disappear back there), when there is a chance of a fight. I will be surprised if this is not so.
You can have ships passing through Leeds all day long and not one GRN logs, but as soon as certain Tags appear in Leeds the GRN Tag starts popping up.

That's because whenever we do log and sit around waiting for people, other log off or avoid us. How many times have I flown around the Taus, Leeds, and Magellan to have no interactions? The only way we can ever do anything is if we see large groups popping up in systems we have ZoI in. Hell, we flew with some KNF the other day doing a little joint patrol and chatting it up. Please don't accuse the GRN of things it can't fix.

Don't see why not. If the station gets blown up, put an intense radiation pocket and the richest mining field around it. Other smaller, less lucrative fields further out could be less dangerous.
I am asking because then it would be even more fun to only be able to use miners that need armor to withstand mining for a while. So no light miner fighters to mine but instead hegemons.
This will greater increase the risk/reward factor and sine the hegemon will have armor on then it will more force team effort.
