When I was vanilla player and played single-player after mission line, I just explored univerese.
Firstly the exploration was not very fun until my ship got to far Omegas, where almost no civilization and almost all of it is hostile, with presence of static dangers such as explosive clouds/mines/radiation and ship wrecks with rarest guns, THAT was fun.
What do I expect to find in deep space: great sight, mysterious and bizarre things, rare nomad vagrant bases, hidden ship wrecks with sweet loot, challenging NPCs, challenging static dangers (explosive clouds with insane damage, strong radiation which makes you hurry up), another players who are interested in all these.
There must be random jumpholes which exist for approximately 1 day and lead to deep space systems, in some cases you suddenly may discover there is no jumphole back, then later find some ship wreck with codegun and try to get out of there, meeting different threats until you finally reach hole to Sirius... or to another deep space system with even more dangers.
Of course different random jumpholes may lead to one system, no need to create one new system every day, just have big(>10) set of systems to generate jumphole into.
P.S. To restrict surveying or jumping to specific system is not hard.

I trust that the moment it is in the game and finally works. After all, we currently have a feature that is supposed to prevent jumps into certain systems, and it still doesn't work as intended.
