In my view, there have been worse rites from the Staff.
I like it.

I defently understand the question.
And in my (perfect;) world i would see some LN-Caps shooting at Rochester for several hours (like siging a PoB) and a GM would have a look to this and decide, ok, the Base is sieged or the base was defendet.
But i know that i don't have a (ingame) world like that.
Sorry but what should really be done is make them usable in pvp again and tell those who can't handle it to suck it up, and take it out in game.
These have the potential to be one of the coolest aspects of the mod, its just its use that should be simplified to that of a normal in-game weapon.
Its clear now that no one was getting their events through, and the staff didnt really want to be doing them for various reasons. This has been a big source of frustration for me here.
Can't we just get a practical use of them again, and let them be used? There's got to be a stockpile of them, and people would use them in pvp to defend their bases, or to get the upper hand in a battle. Of course, that would be a real battle over something and not a scripted pvp event.
If they were useful, they'd just get used, sold, traded, etc, as a super weapon again, as a big card to earn and play for anyone, especially smaller factions (terrorist/guerrilla factions especially).
It may not happen instantly but if we could get some in-game objects of value (stations) or let them be used on POB's, and things would be a lot more interesting around them. If its done like that, we can still have them and it would not require requests or processing to use them. Are people really so scared of what may happen? It seems it would be more fun all around to give them use since we already have them, like them, and would love to even get to acknowledge them, like actually inrp.
The whole time we had these it was like there was a constant effort to try to make it seem like we had them, but actually suppressed them as much as possible. Please loosen the reigns finally instead of axing one of the coolest weapons in the mod.
So how are we supposed to alter our environment outside of whatever faction is being doted on by the modteam? NEMP events were a distant, but attainable shot at actual Freedom in Freelancer. Now it's just going to be subject to whatever circlejerk the powers at be dream up.
Make it viable for PvP damage again, and not have the events. Something that lets the Freelancer have a semblance of that first word in it. All I'm seeing is the buildup for factions with no weakness and every strength because they're the favorites for the story.
If you're an individual, RP and dev request. If you're an official faction, your leader should bring it up in story dev chat. Same as every faction, despite what the "devtonia" meme might make you believe.
Our intent to patch with a faster cadence over previous development teams allows us to theoretically do world-altering changes relatively speedily.

Ah, ignorance is bliss. It wasn't disabled because people complained about its use in pvp. This was done because a trend was starting to form where at every major event you'd have a hacker man chain firing the things at everyone and crashing what's going on.
Disabling their more ballistic usage put an end to that avenue of cheating and exploits. So in the words of karst, maybe it is U who should suck it up and take it out in game.
