And buffing trading slightly won't break it while leaving missions the way they are, and just tweaking the gunboat payouts
Takes a long time now?
It took me a year to make my first billion, when I first started.
People can make that, easily, in a week doing a couple of Ore runs a day.
If you go and do the Trade Events you can make literally billions in a week of trading.
Money has never been so easy to make, if you want to go for it.
It just appears that people want to have everything, without actually working for it.

Way back then, gold ore used to sell for like 18,250 at Munich. I miss those days. I hate trading. I hate how everything is a freaking grind. It's so boring and mind numbingly dull, I don't understand how people have the mental energy to withstand trading. All this stupid grinding makes you want to play less. And it's even more frustrating because you gamble money on trying out something and it turns out to be a waste.
I do kind of see trading as inherently flawed because the failure state of losing your cargo/destruction encourages the type of gameplay/playstyle that offers the least fun interactions imaginable because ideally, you want to interact with nobody who could waste your time or destroy you. Sadly, it is 50% of what Freelancer has to offer. The other 50% is shooting. It is nice that missions now are equally as attractive as trading. The numbers probably just need a bit of twiddling.

Wait... So the old guys that are complaining about "broken economy that used to be harder to get money in"
Were actually straight up lying or have a bad memory if that 18.25k is true
I also heard about Barge, Planet Harris Syndrome, Jump trading and other shenanigans - throwing the words "broken economy" around because missions give comparable money to trading is starting to look like a joke honestly

This 'salty old guard' still trades to this day. I don't haul ores nor do I do the Trade Events.
And if you read my previous post, you will see that I said "doing a couple of Ore runs per day can net you a billion in a week".
Not sure where the 24 hour grind comes in to it.
If you join today and by tomorrow you want a Cap Ship, CAUVIII, Cloak etc then, yes, you will have to grind for 24 hours.
That is you putting yourself under that pressure, not the Game, to make the money in the quickest time.
If you are willing to build up and do it over a few weeks or a month, then the grind really isn't there.

No idea when Gold Ore was selling for 18k as I never did it.
Barge Jumping and Trade Ship jumping was a thing back in about 2013-2015 (if I remember correctly). Barges were being sold for stupid amount of money (I saw one being offered for 20 billion).
There weren't 100s of Barges in the Game. But some people were doing it, not everyone.
'Broken economy' was one of the reasons it was stopped.
Now only Freighters can be jumped.

I think I am sorta understanding where he is coming from.
For example, if you wanted to kit out a Battleship, with the best it can have. You firstly dump 500+mil on it, then 895mil on the armour, 250mil on the scanner, then if you go into getting the best guns for it. You could be adding another 1 billion or excess on it. (Sci-data).
For someone new, or someone who does not power-trade (Because, to be honest. Without a group its ZZZZZZZ). To just kit one ship, is excessively expensive. And the price, funny enough, doesn't even change much between the classes of cap. The Scanner + Armour both will make you pay 1.1 bil minimum for a fully loaded cap. Then you add on the price of the cap and its weapons. This is also not including things such as Jump drive, cloak, hyperspace beacon or what not which come in as additional quirks. But this is -still- for 1 cap.
Snubs on the other hand, are much simpler. Their armours unified, meaning they only use one. They still could throw down 250 million for the best scanner, 25 million for the Cheetah thruster. And if you wanted to fully kit it with the best weapons. You're looking at maybe dropping another 1.5 billion on it. For the one snub.
In essence, you need a lot of money to make your ship the best it can be. And that's only for the 1 ship, when people generally have many more.

See we agree then, good! Economy is not broken and just needs some balance tweaks and attempt to make trading more fun and/or buff it slightly!
Like you say yourself - people that want expensive stuff fast have to go through gruelling hours of numbing grind. And people that are ok with snubs and basic loadouts can make money for them quickly. I don't see what's broken about that.

Old guard isn't salty for having to endure longer grinds than you have to these days. Old guard is just telling you to stop crying about the little you have to endure because the old guard was around when one had to endure worse than what you are crying about now. I remember grinding 6-8 h/day for 3-4 days straight for $200m/day in late 2011. I don't want you to have to do the same, but I don't really like your rants about a lot easier economy either.
I like the way it is now, I like the work devs put in, I am just responding to the preposterous claims how broken the economy is when it just needs tweaks within the system we already have to balance Trade to missions viability and Effort:fun:$/hr ratios
