There's not much to do these days. Not much new anyways. As time rolls by its still extraordinarily frustrating. People can say I'm belligerent but, I'm not.
Here's my logic. During any given time, not during peak hours, server population drops to 10-20 people at most. That's barely enough to really be able to log to seek out spontaneous meaningful interaction. There are things you can do but if there is no real need, people typically look at the server during those times, won't bother log in, and play something else. I think we can turn our average 20 into 40, and average 40 into 80, know what I mean?
I firmly believe that more people would log in more regularly again, but we need a bone dropped to us eventually. Now everyone knows I've promoted a system to allow for faction challenges (sieges) over control of certain bases. The entire point is not endless non stop sieges, but to create a situation that there is always something pertanent, relevant, worth extra effort, always ongoing. The battles would actually unfold slowly, in almost real time.
Since the Gallic war ended, the place lost a lot of activity. It obviously means that in a space shooter game of any kind, even an RPG, war is good for business. The system I came up with allows for players to always have a real issue to get involved with, and put more effort into. Long story short, the server needs more going on to make it worth everyone's efforts to continue here.
So to me, it seems my system gets avoided simply to avoid giving me any credit for contributing to this place, as it may turn out to be a big deal, but that is the point. Many will suppress my efforts just over that, so people please consider the bias against me over even trying to move the unmoveable stone. How dare I? or anyone for that matter? Who do I think I am? But if no one does, it doesnt seem like much will be changing ever.
Its just beyond frustrating that the place is actually functioning enough to do more stuff again but not much happens. It just seems like a huge waste. Go ask a scientist or something if you have to, study this place and my solution. Players should consider that in order to fix its problems, you really need to drop the bias of being a community member to see things clearly.
Supply events are ok, but is this place over? Not much of a rush to get online for it. Its not actually crazy to see Disco as something that can have a rebirth, I'm positive the mod has everything people like and want (for a free game) we just need things to do. Things that don't require a permission slip from staff for each little move, only the big moves. We need something that creates new ongoing purpose, and raises server population at all times. Yes, that is possible!
I'm not saying we need another artificial war either, we just need a system so players can do some stuff like that on their own, which lets players log on to get to work on stuff, instead of feeling like its pointless. I know how arrogant it sounds here, I don't know about you guys, but if it were up to me, I would have this place packed in no time.
In regards to my system, think of it like this: if we all logged in now, and the vast majority of stations could be attacked by their enemy factions (by earnable siege events), and really be threatened by actual people doing stuff, we'd all have so much to do we wouldn't know where to start, we'd actually have a bunch of jobs to do that would need players right off the bat. Actual things to do, with actual purpose, and it can just go on and on. Thats what people want! So yes, one last time I'm asking for a miracle from the Admins/Devs to support it and make it a reality! LINK ->Official Faction Challenge System
Reading this sanction you have kinda introduced a new rule under the table. While it is common sense that farming activity for your faction through afking should be punished this still leaves a sour taste. A proper introduction of an AFK penalty should be posted by the Staff with all possible consequences covered. However, this new "rule" also opens the gates for massive griefing that can harm factions in suffering from failing quarterly checks without actually breaking the rules.

This really isn't a surprise in any way and as you say it is common sense. We don't really need a rule for each possible stupid thing people may do and we certainly don't need to go back to the days when it would take an hour to read the rules. There are many ways for admins to check if you're afking or not so a malicious report would net you some serious trouble.
Regardless, the change from "we will erase afk time" to "you auto fail the entire quarter because of one person's actions (which very well could be an honest mistake)" is a radical one warranting a proper announcement at the very least.

"Farming activity by idling AFK and/or off plane will be punished by removing X amount of activity form the tracker."
This simple sentence could easily be added to the official faction rules, which only official faction members need to know and read,.
It's actually very possible and very easy to write down all the unwritten rules and rule clarifications, and still use about 30% less words than the current version of the rules, simply by actually making an effort to be concise, well organized, and suitable for ingame reading: https://discoverygc.com/forums/showthrea...45&page=12
But instead of making the minimal effort of actually writing rules down properly, the admins threaten a ridiculously harsh punishment, and announce a new draconian policy that goes for every OFL in an individual sanction thread for one guy, adding to the "green texts" and "rule clarifications" scattered across dozens of threads/posts all over the forum, which almost nobody will ever look at.
And then, we are asked to just "trust in the admins" on this.
You know... the same admins who have been unable to snap out of what is described above for years for "reasons".
The same admins and mods who routinely post deceptively edited "trial by discord" logs and screenshots on public disco discord together with their friends, and then (repeatedly) censor and ban people who post the complete logs.
I know there will be the same sycophants who will now post "look karlotta just wants to be negative nobody pay attention to the actual substance of what is being said. Oh guys... do you think... ha ha... karlotta thinks its a CONSPIRCY???" below. No, I don't think its a conspiracy, I think its just more of the mind boggling incompetence that makes you think both "typical for disco" and "what the hell" at the same time.
Is it even worth asking how you actually intend to go through with this, or if its just and empty threat that may or may not ever be applied?
Are OFLs supposed to attach a lie detector and take the RL address of every new member, to make sure nobody slips in and screws over the entire faction?
Oh right... "the wise and just admins will be very wise and very just as they always are, don't worry, and don't you dare talk about their track record".
