Due to assorted roll-overs and no one hitting it, the Mega-Millions multi-state jackpot this Friday is $500,000,000 (and will probably go higher as the feeding frenzy commences).
Yes, that's $500 MILLION USD - half a BILLION dollars.
Depending upon where you live in the country and with state taxes, if you took the cash option (instead of the annuity where you get yearly payments for 26 years), you'd end up with about $255 million after taxes. If you're an alien - as in non-US resident, you'd end up with about $240 million after taxes.
That's cash. One lump sum.
Call it a cool 250 mil - a QUARTER OF A BILLION FREAKING DOLLARS - all at once.
Just curious about how you'd spend some of your sudden wealth if you got it. You can be as perfectly greedy as you want, just be reasonably intelligent in your responses. (I know, this is flood, so I'm not actually expecting intelligent answers, but I can hope, right?)

I'm more interested in the fact that half a billion dollars somehow gets turned into a quarter. Don't worry, soon they will be taxing your right leg and then take the left as well. Wonderful country you got there. American Dream...oh wait.
Anyway, I would take it out of America and buy an island in the Mediterranean and live out my days in luxury. Oh, I might send a couple dollars to Africa. You know, feed the poor, something like that, sure sure.
Create my dream studio, buy a house, nothing fancy, something normal, enough to create my new studio. invest the rest in certain business and charity. that is a pointless sum of money to have anyway. I would probably make a lot of poor families happy.
EDIT: SA, taxes is around 40-45% here for that kinda sum as well. So they take 200 + of it as tax here as well, i live in Turkey.

Yea, tell me about it. In America they first tax for the state and then add on the Federal Tax too. Just don't live in California.
pretty sure england's ridiculous tax laws mean you don't get taxed on lottery winnings as they count as gambling. If not, they'd go through as capital gains, and that's only 20-odd%
anyway i'd just buy a couple of apartments and stash enough to live off the interest and give the rest away idc
