Have had nice shifts the last days. Helped two pilots out with their unwanted IFF, showed another, how to use the /pimpship thingie.
I have got three question, when 4.86 will release (this year), solved some issues about ships, which ship belongs to civilian line. Also, i advised a luxery liner to carry humans mostly for RP benefit, and explained him, why the navy wanted to drop him his military vehicles and why they furthermore fined him also. i helped him out with a few trade runs for that RP cargo he needs.
Some pilot wanted the nomad thruster on his ship, i have advised him to the techchart, and explained the possible problems, that may face him, if he want to travel into houses.
I have catched a 20-minutes old level 5 pilot with twelve symbols in his name, and advised him to make a new char. Few minutes later, he was in a CSV with a proper name. Very nice and polite guy.
More: Told a location of a jumphole, and explained, how magnets do work.
Then this, from which i have learned a lot:
I got a bit confused about how many german words are used sometimes in Rheinland beyond "Guten abend". To behave accordingly in Rheinland, i made a /setmsg 0 "Guten Abend, meine Damen und Herren." i thought, it would perfectly fit into Rheinland. What a fail from my side, as i invited native germans to answer full in german via local or system.
[07.01.2011 21:08:18] [The_Angels]Cody: Guten Abend, meine Damen und Herren.
[07.01.2011 21:08:46] Mining_Jack: Guten abend auch
[07.01.2011 21:09:09] Mining_Jack: Was war denn so los heute in Rheinland
Followed from a hectical pm from me to him, not to talk german of course in local or system. I explained him my failiure, and of course, i have said sorry for my message, that have forced hm to answer in german.
We have had a talk then for 10 minutes, with more help from me.
All in all, three very entertaining and funny shifts.
3 hour shift!
This was a triumph!
I'm making a note here
Huge success!
Oh wait that was Half-Life.
Well, first I joined Dublin. Just to face the usual insanity.
One BMM IFF/BAF ID'd Luxury Liner that I had to explain what he did wrong.
Several questions about IDs, especially Merc IDs and Freelancer IFF.
Had a Freelancer ID'd player, flying a BH Gunship using BH guns and IFF. Took a while to explain what he did wrong.
Joining Alpha, Gamma and Minor afterwards was rather uneventfull. Two guys going oorp in full caps and russian in system chat, were directed to read the server rules and helped to find their way into a group and it's group chat.
New-York and Pennsylvania were rather busy again. Due to massive oorp in system chat, I saw myself forced to make a short announcement in said channel to explain what they all did wrong. Helping some rookies getting a good start into discovery, then marked the end of my shift.
However, I feel like I need a coffee now.
Several...
And a painkiller against that damn headache would be awesome, aswell.
So, today I went back down to Pennsylvania after being in Alpha for the past few weeks, it was a quiet trip down.
Unfortunately, Pennsylvania was just as quiet.
After around half an hour of watching a Zoner and a remote controlled AI unit play dice games, I did answer a few questions about an AI cruiser being in Liberty. After consulting with a few other Angels over the 5-kyp3 communication channels, I informed the pilot it was able to enter Liberty. I also warned this pilot to expect to be shot at whilst using this ship, he was happy with the response.
After being in Pennsylvania for around an hour, and sharing a glass of Lemon aid and fresh made cookies with the Zoner who was playing dice with an AI, I docked on Bethlehem to get some much needed sleep, after I record what had happened today.
Although it was very uneventful, it was a pretty good day all in all... anyway... now that is done, I am off to sleep.
Widow.
Well, Headed back out again for around half an hour after my much needed rest, and instantly was bombarded by messages about one pilot having a rogue IFF, weaponry that didn't match, and no ID, So I was discussing this with him over private channels, it eventually was sorted out. I recieved a complaint about a level 5 pilot shooting people for no apparent reason, so I got in touch with this pilot, and asked his side of the story, it was much the same as the LPI pilot had told me, so I informed the new pilot, with a very annoying ship name that shooting at people over level 30, and then telling them that they could not shoot you back because you were only new. He disappeared from Long distance scanners very quickly after this.
Realised i've been a bit naughty and not posted recently.
Most of my online time was last week, but sadly i've been another victim to all these connection problems people have been having recently. A few can account to have been given useful help, some have been left hangin and I apologise for that. But i've found my problems are mostly due to my brother pwning it up on COD:BO for XBox. So that's just something i'm gonna have to work around cos you try to take it away from him and he'l hiss like a pissed off cat.
Eh, about a 20-minute shift today. No one messaged me. At all. Then Kettle got on, and immediately got two messages.
A guy with a keyboard-spam name was spamming in system chat. I kindly informed him that the use of random symbols in names is prohibited, and he now has a name consisting of random letters and numbers. Bravo.
That was about it... picked up some of the starter cargo (discovery rules, history of sirius, etc etc) for reference purposes.
Only had a short shift yesterday evening in Pennsylvania. Answered a question about the bottle-nose, bounty hunter gunboat being in house space, and got a Rogue friend to do a mission for a new player so he could mine helium without being killed, he was thankful for that. I also told this player a few of the quick commands, such as /l and we introduced him to group chat. Apart from that it was really quiet. A few new pilots came through while I was there, but no one needed any help.
Was not able to fly today, but I did receive a request for Angel help through Skype-- someone who wanted to start a new trade faction, and had some questions regarding official/unofficial status, and some ID-related queries as well.
I explained the benefits of official faction status, elaborated on the fact that you can remain an unofficial faction for as long as you want, and pointed him towards the best ID for his organization.
Edit to avoid a double post:
1-28
Managed to squeeze in a 15-minute shift today, and absolutely nothing happened.
I pulled an evening shift and met the following amazingly groovy pilots: SternWolf, TapeWorm_Marine, Droffy, Armstrong, Hamza_pepsi_boy, ITS-Vera (outstanding AI char), The-Valkyrie, DSE)Nighthawk, and Sunrunner.
Had a nice discussion on the overall quality of roleplay on the server, gave directions to Omega 15 from Omicron Theta, helped a German player understand the roleplay of a smuggler, had a mind bending discussion with an AI ship, discussed Junker pirating and what house systems were compared to independent systems, and was dismayed when an Order carrier was bombarding Planet Manhattan. Thank goodness for the planetary shields.
All in all a productive time. Felt good to resume my Angel duties after a leave of absence.
