The engine of Lipari's small but capable economy, the domestic corporations of the Republic fuel the nation's efforts to carve out their place in the Taus. While some organizations are run by the state, many are privately owned and employ thousands of Lipari's working age population. Some of Lipari's home grown corporations date back to before the Second Maltese Republic, while others are fresh and new to the Lipari dialogue; Some openly operate throughout Lipari space, while others operate singular locations within a settlement on Lipari Island. Regardless, all of them are regarded highly by many within Lipari society.
Corporate operations within Lipari space are very heavily regulated, with a strong legal focus on ensuring the safety of a company's employees and the protection of Lipari Island's natural environment over a corporation's profits and ease of operation. This leads to an environment quite unfriendly to foreign competitors, with most opting to simply conduct surface-level business transactions instead of navigating the bureaucracy of Lipari's economic regulatory commission. Liparian corporations tend to focus on ensuring repeat business through establishing brand trust, a methodology encouraged by the Republic's Department of Commerce. As such, local products are largely preferred over foreign imports, although markets where Lipari has no domestic competition remain a reliable avenue for foreign organizations.
REPUBLICAN SHIPPING
Founded: February 19th, 833 A.S.
CEO: Ruben Sinmill
Founded during the height of martial law in the age of the Second Maltese Republic, Republican Shipping started as a small shuttle service ferrying goods between Minato Harbor and Lipari Spaceport. Over time, the firm began expanding more and more into interspatial cargo transport, and despite the heavy economic burdens associated with running a shipping company during martial law, Republican endured. Following a change to their official government registry to qualify their employees for transport beyond Lipari space, Republican Shipping began providing logistical services to both Lipari and abroad.
Despite being a nominally independent corporation, and subject to many of Lipari's strong regulations, Republican has found a comfortable niche among the Republic's corporations providing bulk shipping to the Liparian Armed Forces. This direct relationship with the government has resulted in many profitable contracts, particularly with regard to interspacial construction.
VALENCIA INDUSTRIES
Founded: October 2nd, 825 A.S.
CEO: Vanessa Acin
Valencia Industries was originally a hull panel and alloy production firm based out of the Valencia Isle Industrial Sector on Malta, the flagship organization of pre-Cross Malta's industrial base. After the Republic's self-imposed exile, many company representatives left Malta to coordinate better with the Republican government, taking much of their staff, documents, and even a sizeable chunk of their industry with them, leaving Valencia Isle as little more than an abandoned shell of what it once was. Officially filing for incorporation in 825, Valencia wasted no time in establishing a location on Lipari Island from which to begin operations. Despite much initial success, Valencia was soon struck by a sudden drop-off of labor to man their machinery, and operations were soon hamstrung with bursts of productivity following each of Lipari's occasional migrant influxes.
Following the Glassing of Leeds, Valencia soon found much of the manpower it had sought. Producing heavy materials for both the Maltese Armed Forces and the Crayter Military alike, Valencia's durasteel is fitted proudly to many vessels that serve the Republic. When cardamine deficiency struck the Republic in 830, many of Valencia's executive personnel were lost, leaving what refugees the company had hired to pick up the slack. With many of them hailing from Leeds, the executives that remained were forced to cut back on many of the highly profitable aims the last leadership had, and in 832 the company selected Vanessa Acin to be CEO. A Bretonian of Maltese descent, she pushed for many regulatory changes to both operations within and outside the company, and it has been thanks to her initiative that Lipari today has many of the strong corporate regulations it does.
Despite some slowdown thanks to lobbying for increased industrial regulation, Valencia has rebounded to about 80% of her pre-martial law numbers, with projections estimating continued growth as long as refugee influxes continue at a steady rate. There is currently an initiative by the board of directors to fully power Valencia's Lipari-based operations entirely by off-shore wind power by 836, with headway looking substantially promising.
FOX TECHNOLOGIES
Founded: March 1st, 792 A.S.
CEO: Sir Willard Fox
Founded by Rupert Howard Fox in 792 A.S., Fox Technologies (also known as Fox Tech, Fox-Tec, F-Technologies, and F-Tech) was initially a household name in many parts of Leedish society before the Kusari occupation. Responsible for the development of filtration systems and breathing apparatuses following the development of higher efficiency metal purification using concentrated nitric acid, the 'nitty gas mask' became a staple of industrial work in the factories of Leeds. With the success of their safety equipment, Fox Tech was catapulted into regional notoriety, where they soon began expanding into extra-planetary research and smog condensation to handle the Leeds system's problematic pollution clouds. Despite standing at the head of his company during its rise to stardom, Rupert Fox stepped down as CEO in favor of his son Willard after being diagnosed with terminal lung cancer, of which he succumbed to only seven months later.
