Are there non money making companies in Freelancer?
Anyways regardless of if this idea is viable. If it was so easy to switch to Interspace, it should be fairly simple to switch to another liberty company that actually fits.
If we can test run this I don't mind helping. Though I'd prefer the pob stuff just happening on the proper station in addition to its normal function and no damage repair.
Thanks for stealing improving my idea I dropped somewhere on Discord a long, long time ago (and possibly repeated more recently in a random comment).
I'd love to see each faction get a unique gameplay mechanic tied to it so there is a reason for people to play it.
IC is a good start as it's lore-wise so different than your typical trading faction. I would also maybe recommend you simplify the idea: make it a perishable commodity sold only on IC bases (with perhaps a faction locked non perishable version the IC faction players can play door-to-door insurance salesman with).
Why perishable? Because insurance is usually limited by duration. And it would make sense IC would not insure you taking a long detour through unlawful Omegas if you can go directly through the guarded trade lanes.
Cargo insurance would also be a good way for people to stop crying complaining about honest pirates, as it would make sure they don't lose out on their investment.
Important EDIT: I've given it some more thought and I believe it can be simplified even further, iff it's possible to hook the amount of cargo dropped after death.
Very simple idea: if you have insurance, you respawn with full cargo after death, sans the actual insurance (no cargo is dropped in space). If you don't have insurance, better luck next time.
This way it would be:
a) a way to stick it to the pirates
b) a way to preserve the credits you just invested into valuable cargo
c) a way to deter cargo piracy *sad face*
d) very hard or even impossible to abuse
I would still leave the idea of perishable insurance in, because I feel this would encourage long winded RP where you as a pirate attempt to talk with the trader until his insurance expires so you can get that juicy stuff safely tucked inside his hold. The non perishable faction locked version might help with people seeking interaction with IC salesmen instead of using the station self-service interface.
Of course, with this in people might abandon the idea of cargo piracy completely, so credit only piracy should somehow be discouraged or limited, either through ID rules or server rules.
As a new player here at Discovery I'm reluctant to chime in here, but here's my thoughts.
It is true some players only use the IC id to make a couple fast trades and then return to their real game play. I have seen it happen.
However, some players like myself are full time IC RP, and spend many hours a day moving all around Sirius. I would say we bring a lot of activity to the server, and we spend a big part of the day ducking or interacting with pirates.
I would miss my 5k
As someone said above, it would be nice to have an alternative to just point to point trading all the time, but I would still like to do point to point trades.
While I don't fully understand what you're proposing, it sounds like a new commodity of sorts. And, currently the only cargo worth hauling is ore. So, any new item of commerce you implement for full time IC RP players needs to be as financially profitable as ore. If not, then all the real IC players just switch to US and the game stays as it is now.
Lastly, I do apricate your efforts to make this mod more dynamic and interesting.

I would prefer if 5kers would be reserved for the actual shipping companies so there are reasons to play those while companies like IC can live comfortably with smaller transports.
I understand that playing IC is convenient ID-wise because of the neutrality, yet it takes away stuff from the "real" shipping companies and IC could have this unique gameplay as a compensation.
I don't think it matters much for the shippers to switch IDs from one Liberty corporation to another.
IC has always been a popular powertrading faction with a supposedly very neutral ID, which is funny because it's actually not too different from many other corporate IDs.
Sure, they get a couple unlawfuls, but so do some of the other corporations. Never really did understand why IC in particularly was so attractive.
Anyway, IC is a financial services provider. They have absolutely no business hauling cargo and people are drawn to them to the detriment of actual shipping factions. You could make a reasonable case for them not having an available ID at all - they don't even have ships in vanilla, as I remember.
To the people asserting that the ID is critical for existing factions, I'd like to know what's preventing those factions from simply using a more appropriate ID for hauling cargo - USI would be the obvious one.
I would suggest turning IC into a transportation/Shipping company OR reforming it to fit its Insurance job description... I know that IC has been used as one of the most neutral and amazing IDs for traders who do business in Sirius wide, inside and outside house space, but it is been used wrong for a very long time. I actually am one of the players who use some IC transports because of its great neutral sheet. I would suggest also editing it the right way and providing the discovery players with a good replacement. Maybe consider looking in the shipping companies' reputation sheets and start making one or two of them neutral to many sides, so they can be used as a replacement to IC and IC go back to its main role as an insurance company and stock exchange practicer.
Remember that freelancers also want a 5ker somehow, I don't how lol
or both of the above add vodka for bonus points to breaking existing thing
Make D K'vash worlds instead and add them to the game that has been talk
since before Project Freelancer 2 was started
Besides if you nerv IC players will just make an account with 7 x 5k ships each a different house and faction
get one zoner station to transfer goods on from one ship to the other
and out the window goes your nerv so why even bother changing it
It is understandable that ppl gravitate towards the ID. "Interspace Commerce" sounds (to me at least) like a pretty sweet international trade company. I myself own a IC 5ker.
But as I've told a few ppl, I'm interested in finding unique gameplay niche's for as many factions/groups as possible. If it is possible, this would be the beginning of IC's uniqueness, having more of its gameplay shaped around its unique role as a financial institution, i.e. add banking, investments, have an idea even for a stock market where folks could purchase shares of player owned groups, that fluctuate with actual play (that one needs quite a bit more thought).
I'd like to see Kishiro manufacturing needed electronics for use by other players in productions, Synth Foods manufacturing their faction commodity "Biodome Materials" for use in Biodome Extensions on POB's, Lane Hackers being able to accrue resources and funds over time for periodic sabotage of gates and lanes in actuality, for Ageira to actually produce gate lane parts needed to complete projects, construction companies smelting alloys from metals they've purchased from mining factions who've refined them from ores.
Essentially, a player-driven economy.
Less, haul ore x to base y and call it a day. If any of these come about, we won't do it by stealing away the ability to generate credits.

Sorry I don't make systems, and players already own 5kers in numerous factions
