INCOMING TRANSMISSION

Labore et Scientia

TO: Bretonia Police Authority, Bretonia Intelligence, CC: Armed Forces
FROM: Administrator Elena Bennet, Jarrow Island, Planet New London
AFFILIATION: Noble Families of Bretonia
SUBJECT: Report of a missing ship

Esteemed representatives from the aforementioned factions,

Baron Piett sends his best wishes to all of you as well as presenting apologies for not being able to contact you on his own. I've been tasked to bring this matter to your capable hands. Two days ago we lost contact with our associates from Gateway. They were aboard a trading vessel class: Shire, named "Scientia". I am sending you their last known position. We did attempt to pull a scout operation to track the ship but so far with no success. We could consider few scenarios - the ship could be adrift due to malfunction somewhere in the vicinity of Bretonia, Destroyed or Hijacked. Considering the latter we would need to assure you, in advance, that if this is the case then we have nothing to do with any possible violations committed by the crew after we lost contact with them two days ago.

We would like to state a note of importance. Ship's cargo hold contains some valuable personal assets in possession of Baron Piett. That is why it must remain intact should you be fortune to track it down. I am attaching the following documentation to assist you with that task. This "Shire" power generator was modified - moved to a different location for safety reasons - you can see it marked with the purple rhombus. A focused fire at this hard-point should shut down the entire power within for approximately one hour, enough for a proper boarding party to clean any unfortunate mess.

Should your investigation delivers more clarity about this matter, please use this transmission to inform us of its development.

*The visage that the holo-comm had the fortune to record -- being a machine, it may have found a liking to it -- exuded reliability like a giant concrete pillar on the portico of a government building. Preferably, HM Revenue and Customs, or the Bank of Bretonia. Its owner might not care too much about you, but he would obviously see that the government gets its due, or he would die trying. To Cdr French, few things really were holy, but procedure was one of them, and it would be an understatement to say that he worked "by the book". While some people certainly did work "by the book", if this was all a singular "book" that they all worked by, then it was doubtlessly written by Cdr French. He spoke slowly and methodically, like if this was a pre-litigation inquiry, rather than an emergency.*

Good day, Mrs Bennet. Your message was received and duly listened to by the Defence Intelligence Staff, classed, sorted, and conveyed to my office. I have received it and duly listened to it, and I have already undertaken decisive action -- I have confirmed its classification as A73.S15.P5! That means it is now perfectly clear that your problem is "a ship lost in space". The first step in this situation is not to panic. So, I will have to ask you: please do not panic, and if you have already started, please stop. Thank you for all the other information, I am working to sort it and I will let you know when this standard procedure is done.

As per procedure, I am going to have to ask you for the ship's detailed, and I mean thoroughly, meticulously detailed, cargo manifest, without a single, tiniest thing left out. We need to know what's in there before we send people, because there might be something dangerous, even if you might not know it is dangerous. Or, merely if there is something fragile, you know.

Thank you, too, for all your doubtlessly expert suggestions of search and rescue methodology, we will note them down and learn, but this time we will have to stick to the procedure. After the administrative part is done, which should only take up to two days because I will see to it personally, I will send a professional scout team to find your ship, rescue its crew and recover the cargo. Nobody will be firing weapons at your property -- not only because it's personal property, but also because I will not send my people aboard after I cause a nuclear meltdown. Do you understand? This is how we will do it: if your ship's engines are still active, then one of our scouts will launch a cruise disruptor at your ship to slow them down to a manageable and constant velocity. An EMP pulse will deactivate the shield, and a boarding team will shut down the engines from the inside. After that, your ship will be safe with us.

Now, please transfer the cargo manifest so that we can proceed. Oh, and... the crew manifest too. We obviously need that too. Please be quick, you know that human lives are at stake and it's best we find your ship as soon as possible.

Good day, commander French.

It's a real honour to see a professional like you taking this investigation under his wing. Considering the dire situation, without delay, I am sending you the files you've requested. The ship's cargo hold of 3900 units was supposed to get fully loaded of Drill Bits from the Gateway base: Caernarfon Station in System: Pool. The crew was tasked to deliver these tools to the BMM base: Graves Station in System: Dublin. The human resource onboard consisted of captain John Pound, 15 civilian pilots and 10 marines, from our private sector. As for the baron's personal assets they are in a small safety deposit box, located in the captain's Pound quarters. Тhe content of the safe is mainly rare gems worth around 1'000'000 EC and a few credit cards worth 10'000'000 EC. It would be drastic to describe the gems as artifacts, while they are mere nature's pure creation, but to the baron they are just that - "artifacts". And before your sharp mind jumps to the wrong conclusion of possible self explanatory self accusition - No, these are Not Artifacts.

Allow me to clarify a portion of my statement - the cargo manifest "was supposed" to be full because, from what we see on our log files, the ship did not dock at Caernarfon Station at all. We lost contact with the crew minutes after the ship was in the vicinity of the mentioned station.

Should you need any further information, do not hesitate to ask.

Good day, Mrs Bennet. You are mostly clear, but this is irregular. If this was any other case, my team would have to impound the safe temporarily so that an expert can determine whether those "gems" truly are what you say. However, bearing in mind that Mr Piett is a baron, I will give my utmost trust in his good intentions and exempt his personal assets from the usual search.

But, what does a Shire need 15 pilots for? Did you mean to say crew?

Commander French,

I sense a bit of misunderstanding towards my statement about the personal belongings of the baron aboard the Scientia. You have requested a full detailed log and so we've provided you with one. I would quote with:
Quote:As per procedure, I am going to have to ask you for the ship's detailed, and I mean thoroughly, meticulously detailed, cargo manifest, without a single, tiniest thing left out
That would include and I confirm that there were 15 civilian pilots aboard the ship. Your show of respect is admirable, commander, for which we are greatful. But baron Piett insisted - should you find the missing ship to not exempt the safety box from your usual search. Such an act would throw a shadow of doubt towards his reputation - something he would be most unpleased with. Follow your protocols to the letter - we have nothing to hide.

If that is all for now, please proceed with your administrative part, which should only take, as you mentioned it early, up to two days, Time is up ahead and the fate of these people is yet unknown.

Good day, Mrs Bennet. I have noted it down: 15 pilots. It is not practically relevant for the search what the crew's professions are, I just have to know what check boxes to tick, which is still no less important. And there's a lot of them. Now to work, and we can start searching in two days. Toodle-oo, ma'am.

Commander,

I am here to report that we've found the transport ship Scientia, although in orbit of Planet Cambridge. It refused to obey our commands to halt, so boarding parties were launched. They were successful in taking control of the vessel, with minimal casualties.

The vessel was controlled by Gaian-aligned forces, with several other pirates assisting in the ensuing battle. Of note is also the discovery of Azurite remains on board the vessel itself. Please relocate decontamination teams to its mooring berth 6, at Portsmouth Shipyard, as fast as able. There are no prisoners.

That is all.

Terence Harter
Commander
Bretonian Armed Forces

Good day, Mrs Bennet. I am keeping you informed that I have finished the administrative part of my duty and now I am about to send the scouts to find the ship. Let's wish them good luck.

Belay that! It says here your ship has... already been found. This major success by Commander Terence Harter confirms the vitality of the Bretonian system. Commander Harter, please hold them in space for a while more, will you? I have to note all of this down now and it may take a day. And please provide me a detailed list of casualties. I need to write down who and what was lost precisely, and "minimal" isn't precise enough.

Commanders,

In behalf of those I represent we thank you for your precise and quick actions to track down the missing ship. It saddens us to hear the crew and all on board were killed in action. A support to the families of those involved and perished, including your marines, will be sent - a small act of respect for their loss. It is unfair for them that these terrorists are not alive to be convicted but perhaps their fate is more fitting. According to these late events, we insist on full investigation to be committed by your adequate personal, like commander French. This tragedy holds many questions which answers we are eager to hear. For starter can you send us the ship's log files? Also, may you confirm if there are no traces of the Shire's captain John Pound or he is also considered KIA? And what is this Azurite you mentioned all about?
