Sorry to be picking over something that's technically irrelevant now, but as a proud Corsair player a few bits are irritating me.
' Wrote:[clip] The Corsairs are a civilization, not a military group. They are also ravaged by famine and resort to cannibalism, and we never hear of any centralized Corsair leader. Thus, it's natural they'd splinter and have political divisions and rival leaders and such Romanesque things. [clip]
1) You say the Corsairs are not a military group? I'd say they were pretty militant. The name Corsair, in my mind, does not describe the broad majority of 'Corsair' civilians on bases but the combat pirates that the Houses do actually know about. Besides, I'd say any group kitted with a full range of ship ranged from Light Fighter to Dreadnought was a Military.
2)The Corsairs are not ravished by famine any more. That was when they had first established themselves and in the times of pre-Artifact trade. If you look at news articles and rumours on Corsair bases you'll find that the Corsairs have an adequate amount of food supplied by the Zoners and looted from Bretonia. They don't have enough food to indulge in, and there will be small scale famine over Crete is 4500 passengers are unloaded, but for the majority of the time everyone eats. Not people either.
3) Corsairs are cannibals. Yeah... Right, well that was again, when the Corsairs first landed and over 50% of the population was wiped out. A small percentage of the population sacrificed in order to sustain the others, and after all this the population was small enough to be supported by the little amounts of farmable land. Nowadays Corsair cannibalism doesnt happen at all seeing as we can just buy food off the Zoners (admittedly at outrageous prices). The news articles also suggest that Corsair Elders are working on the construction of Bio-Domes to cut out the need for zoners.
And at a later date I remember someone asking what would happen if someone set up a clan called the 'Corsairs' and forced other Corsair clans to obey them... Weeell, TBH would crush them, then the OPG would stamp on them, then the Benitez would shake their head at them from the side lines. Or something to that line. In short, anything upsetting the Gamma power balance seems to end up close to civil war (())
Errm, sorry for that people. But back on topic. I would say independent LSF agents would be acting as splinter forces acting under the radar and out of the public domain (I mean, come on the player LSF faction is hardly a clandestine operation.) They should be allowed into Alaska, but seeing as they are acting under the radar, the standard LSF agent won't know about them so they will still have to ask for permission. Or something to that line... I'm confusing myself.
Asymptotic, with your LSF character, try the idea I put up above. Say for example a sub-section of the LSF (i.e. non player faction) has tasked you with various assignments and you must complete them out of the public eye. Write up a forum story explaining why you're not in the player faction and everything should be fine. Errm, am I repeating myself? I'll step down now.
And IF you are going to RP that you have authorization, believe me,I will check BEFORE letting you enter. And any attemp to enter before I have established your bonifides will result in the destruction of your vessel.I say this because I have in the past had pilots try to snowjob their way into z21,and that includes outright lying about who gave them authorization, and that will get your ship toasted everytime.BTW,in RL I am ex-navy,have spent many days on patrol, guard duty,so in essense,I do know what I am doing there....following the orders that were given to me to carry out, with some discression on my part.
As Unseelie put it.. I don't get this weird mentality you people have. Why do you insist there are two LSFs? It seems contrary to Occam's Razor and confusing for me. It's like insisting there are two Galactic Empires, one that Palpatine leads and another that actually controls the whole Star Wars galaxy.
The LSF, player faction wise, is under the total command of one man. Sniper. If you're in the LSF and he says 'Jump' you say 'How f-ing high, sir?!' We agree on this, yes? Now, as Asymp has stated, the server rules allow him to carry the ID and tag of the LSF without being part of the player faction. However, this does not allow you to completely circumvent the factions authority. If they say (whether you are an independant LSF, or a member of the PC faction) that you cannot go into Alaska, you don't bloody go into Alaska.
So I understand this idea that there are 'two LSFs,' however, what I do not agree with, is that they are autonomous, and that they are both player factions. Player faction LSF has control over the systems it has control of, you listen to them in those systems, or they are liable to beat you to a pulp. And you listen regardless of your tag.
So, what exactly is believed in-universe, as Unseelie put it? That there is an organisation called the Liberty Security Force led by a Director that for some bizarre reason is part of a larger, identically named and ranked organisation?
No offense, but that sounds ridiculous to me. Server rules don't come into it, or the admins would have undoubtedly stepped in on this matter by now.
You have the =LSF=, lead by, inhabited by and run by players.
The you have the tag/ID LSF - [Insert name here]
To my knowledge, the second has no actual in-universe authority, you are simply wearing the tag. However, tagged as an LSF officer or not, you are still forced to listen to the player faction if they tell you to do something in their space. Whether you be indie or another faction.
The first is the one that actually patrols, fights for, and controls the northern Liberty systems. They have in-universe control, unlike simply being tagged LSF - [Name]. And as I've stated before, the second option, in my opinion, needs to be removed. Why? Well, because we end up with threads like this.
This is all tmk, so if I'm wrong, please do correct me.
