Once the industrial heart of Bretonia, Leeds is now just a barren system with a high number of pirates as a result of the Gallic invasion. Besides the sentimental reasons, the connection to the Taus and the uranium field around LD-14 are the only remaining value of the system.

In 95 AS, the colonization of Leeds was decided as Bretonia's second system. From the beginning, the government's focus was on the many mineral raw materials in the system plus the colonizable planet. There were large deposits of uranium and niobium in the system. The uranium is mined by LD-14; Noib was mined by the Stokes Mining Station. There are also a number of other raw material deposits on the planet Leeds. The Leeds system means a lot to Bretonia, especially for its spaceship industry, as the system's uranium is the company's most important source of fuel.

On no other planet in Sirius had industrialization led to such rapid growth as on Planet Leeds. With more than 15 billion inhabitants, it was one of the most densely populated planets in the entire Sirius sector. But there were no other planets with more pollution and thus served as a negative example for Green Front, from which the Gaians later developed. Even before its destruction in the war, Leeds was always surrounded by thick clouds of smog and was very urbanized.

When it became clear in 810 years that the deposits of the Stokes asteroid field would no longer yield much, the government in New London decided to expand into the Tau - particularly into the niobium-rich Tau-23. This move eventually led to the start of the Tau War in 814 AS. Since this was fought specifically between Kusari and Bretonia (despite the involvement of the governments of Planet Malta & Borneo, as well as the IMG and the Mollys), it is also known as the Bretonnia-Kusari War. Despite initial successes, the war quickly developed to Bretonia's disadvantage, so that the KNF was eventually even able to invade Leeds.

But before they could win the war, the Gallic invasion began out of nowhere in 817 AS. From Orkney the GRN began pouring into the Taus and quickly captured Tau-23, Tau-31, Tau-44 and Tau-29. The KNF was not prepared for such a side attack and lost almost its entire fleet to the GRN. After a coup in Kusari, the government finally made peace with the invaders. The emperor, who was with the invasion troops in Leeds at the time, was now in Breton exile. There he made peace with the old enemy and allied with him against Gallia, which now turned with full force against Bretonnia.

After years of hard, brutal battle of attrition, Gallia finally conquered Leeds. The system, the planet and the economy were stripped bare. On Planet Leeds the destruction was enormous. Even until the end of the war, soldiers, marines and partisans from Bretonia still stayed here to fight against the invaders.

After the coup in Gallia and the failure of the New London Offensive, the tide turned and the BAF eventually recaptured Leeds. However, before this, the GRN carried out the Glassing of Leeds. During this operation, the planet was so destroyed under massive orbital bombardment that repopulation was no longer possible.

After the war, the system's infrastructure was essentially restored. The connection to the Tau is somewhat secure again, but the economic importance of the system is probably gone forever. BMM has begun dismantling the remains of the Stockes field and LD-14 has resumed operations. At Halifax Freeport there are many pirates who like to attack through hawkers and Junkers who collect the remnants of war to use at Trafalgar Base in nearby New London.

The former residents of the system who did not die in the wars were resettled by the government near Newcastle, Tau-31, Exeter & Nottingham. Nevertheless, the Leeds scar has not even begun to heal to this day.

      Areas of Interest

      Nebulae

      Object Unknown

      East Leeds Smog Cloud

A large cloud of smog that has coalesced over the centuries from the various industrial operations throughout Leeds. Gaians and Outcasts are often sighted within the cloud.

      West Leeds Smog Cloud

A large cloud of smog that has coalesced over the centuries from the various industrial operations throughout Leeds. The cloud provides cover for anyone looking to attack shipping within Leeds.

      Asteroid Fields

      Stokes Asteroid Field

A medium-size asteroid field rich in aluminum, titanium and niobium, Bretonia Mining and Manufacturing (BMM) historically worked the field with great success, smelting and refining raw materials obtained from the field at the massive Stokes smelting facility nearby. Mining operations were occupied by GMS during the war, but following the Glassing of Leeds the field fell silent. Considerable resources within the field remain, though with Stokes in ruins, any mined ore would have to be transported elsewhere.

      LD-14 Uranium Asteroid Field

      >>>CAUTION<<<

This dense uranium asteroid field holds the LD-14 uranium processing center, responsible for producing the majority of MOX used by Bretonia and Kusari. The uranium found within this field is processed by the recently reconstructed LD-14 plant, in addition to imports from Sigma-59. Belvedere originally received uranium from the field but is now forced to rely on imports. The asteroid field and its pockets of radiation provide natural protection against attempts to raid the facility, but the high value of MOX fuel and the various uses for uranium make for a prime target for pirates and terrorists alike.
