    Areas of Interest

    Nebulae

    Craster Nebula

    >>>WARNING: RESTRICTED AREA<<<

Access to the Craster Nebula has been restricted by Bretonian authorities due to the extreme navigational and radiation hazards within. The area has been the origin of numerous horror stories among pilots, as well as urban legends about bad luck or curses. This stems in part from rumors about the doomed Craster Initiative of the 670s, a BMM-funded project for domestic H-Fuel production. Despite (potentially fraudulent) early signs, no viable gas deposits were ever located, while dozens of workers lost their lives to accidents. When the project failed, several BMM subsidiaries declared bankruptcy and dissolved, leaving abandoned infrastructure littered across the area.

    Asteroid Fields

    Belfast Belt

The Belfast Belt is all that remains of Belfast Production Facility. Belfast was constructed by BMM in 682 AS, however working conditions aboard were notoriously poor. By 814 AS, matters reached breaking point, when mutinous crew members welcomed in Molly attackers. The Mollys then fortified the captured station with a minefield.

The Mollys continued to hold Belfast up until 825 AS, when they were betrayed by the Gallic Battleship Embrun that had been resupplying there during a temporary ceasefire. Belfast was obliterated by a nuclear device, with the surviving fragments and the defensive minefield eventually falling into a degrading orbit of Middlesbrough. The Belfast Belt now poses a navigational hazard for shipments boosting minerals from terrestrial automated platforms up to Redcarr Refinery.

    Northumberland Ice Field

The smaller Newcastle outcropping of the Barrier, the Northumberland occupies the southeastern reaches of Newcastle. Repeated surveys found little of value beyond an abundance of Water ice; the depths of the field remaining largely unexplored. Northumberland is renown for its unusually high levels of Gaian activity, as the terrorists use the scanner-scattering properties of the ice asteroids to cover their movement. Frequent raids emerge from the field, striking at Scarborough Shipyard, Redcarr Refinery, and the ongoing bacterial eradication projects at Planet Carlisle.

    Galloway Nebula

The Galloway Nebula is a large outcropping of the Barrier, covering much of the western side of the Newcastle system. Initial Bowex surveys indicated only Terraforming Gases and trace amounts of Hydrocarbons, leading BMM to pull funding for exploration in favor of focusing on the known resources of Middlesbrough. Molly raiders and Outcast smugglers alike soon began to use the field as a staging ground for ventures deeper into the system.

Galloway saw a surge of activity in 832 AS following the abandonment of Poole. Planetform quickly acquired the mining rights for any Terraforming Gasses from BMM, eager to replace the loss of the Merthyr Tydfil Mining Station. The mining site regularly comes under attack by Molly patrols.

    Tyne Ice Field

A beautiful formation of ice rocks in the northern part of Newcastle. The Independent Miners Guild mines the southeast of the field, primarily for Water, Oxygen and Hydrocarbons. A recent increase in Outcast activity has led some to believe the pirate group may have a mobile base deeper into the field, though no official sources have been able to verify this.

    Yorkshire Debris Field

    >>>WARNING: NAVIGATION HAZARD<<<

The Yorkshire Debris Field is the result of decades of shipbuilding and breaking at the nearby Scarborough Shipyard. Authorities recommend travelers avoid the field, as discarded reactor and engine housings have created a significant radiation hazard. Gaian ecoterrorists frequently use the field as cover to launch raids on Scarborough and the nearby Trade Lanes.

    Wrecks

    Daydreamer - D-5/6

The Daydreamer was piloted by Lt Lloyd Parker, launching from the Battleship Harlow. Known for his short attention span and unusually laid back attitude, Lt Parker was investigating reports of Gaian fighters in the Yorkshire Debris Field when he crashed into a discarded engine cowling. Despite ejecting and being recovered by search and rescue soon after, the lieutenant's fighter was lost, blending in with the other wrecked Crusaders littering the area.

    Contains:

    Bretonian Fighter - D/E-6/5

This decrepit fighter has been dumped in the Yorkshire Debris Field. Following the end of the Gallic War, Scarborough Shipyard and many other industrial facilities were tasked with breaking up and recycling surplus assets. Some allege that Border Worlds Exports took payment for these jobs, then simply jettisoned the unwanted hulls into the nearby debris field.

    Contains:

    Gatecrasher - E-6

The Gatecrasher was piloted by Lt Sophie Harris, launching from the Battleship Harlow. Lieutenant Harris was an ambitious young officer who'd commissioned too late to see service in the Gallic War. Despite this, she quickly amassed an impressive service record, with 12 confirmed kills on domestic terrorists to her name. This bravado lulled her into taking unnecessary risks, vanishing after chasing fleeing Gaian raiders from the Trade Lanes into the Northumberland Ice Field.

    Contains:

    Dauntless - D/E-3/2

The Dauntless was piloted by Ens Harry Green, launching from the Battleship Harlow. The Ensign's last transmission reported that he was responding to an IMG distress call from the Tyne Ice Field, where an Outcast raid was ongoing. It appears that after arriving and engaging the Outcasts, the IMG security patrol immediately withdrew, leaving the ensign to his fate.

    Contains:

    Bretonian Fighter - F-4/3

The wreck of the Bretonian fighter, probably taken down by Outcasts or Mollys.

    Contains:

    Utopian - G-6/5

The Utopian was a Planetform supply freighter headed to Gateshead Station. Its convoy was attacked by Gaian terrorists near the Manchester Jump Gate. The Clydesdale fled into the Craster Nebula, only to be crippled by an explosive gas field. The Utopian's cargo manifest has been redacted.

    Contains:

    Sentinel - D/C-7

Sentinel was an Eagle class fighter registered as a civilian freelancer. Its flight manifest and pilot identity have been classified and redacted by Bretonian authorities. Damage patterns indicate it was likely attacked and disabled by Gaian terrorists.

    Contains:

    Duilius - F-3/2

The Duilius was piloted by Arnold De Angelis, youngest son of the De Angelis cartel’s don. Arnold was infamous for toying with IMG vessels before finally dispatching them, and had departed the Destroyer Ceuta to raid South Shields. The Duilius appears to have diverted into the Craster Nebula to mask its approach, before being intercepted and destroyed by unknown vessels.

    Contains:

    Dupleix - C/D-3

The Dupleix was a strike fighter serving in the Gallic Royal Navy during the invasion of Bretonia. It is likely that the ship was destroyed by Outcasts that prowl the Tyne Ice Field. The open canopy indicates the pilot ejected, however the Dupleix’s distress beacon seems to have been intentionally shot out.

    Contains:

    Ambitieux - D-4

The Ambitieux was a strike fighter serving in the Gallic Royal Navy during the invasion of Bretonia. It is likely that the ship was lost following a sortie against the MacDuff fleet, then anchored near Planet Carlisle. A ruptured fuel line prevented the Ambitieux’s withdrawal back to Planet Harris in Tau-31.

    Contains:

    Surcouf - B/C-5

The Surcouf was piloted by notorious Gallic Royal Navy ace Emmanuelle Daigle, who was renowned for capturing downed Bretonian pilots for interrogation. Damage patterns across the Surcouf correspond with both Bretonian and Molly weapons, indicating that there may have been a temporary truce to bring her down.

    Contains:

    Méduse - E-6

The Méduse was a scout serving with Gallic Naval Intelligence, as a part of the Battleship Embrun's fleet. The fighter was damaged and separated from its squadron during a skirmish with Bretonian defenders. It retreated into the Northumberland Ice Field, expecting deference from the local Gaians. Instead, it appears the vengeful ecoterrorists took the opportunity to eliminate the isolated vessel when the opportunity presented itself.
