2. Character Biography
- Early Life
Fiorella Arianna de Marco was born in 795 AS into the sizeable main branch of the de Marco clan, which consists of six closely affiliated families of more than sixty people among five generations in the southern hemisphere of the planet Malta. She was born with love and luxury; her natural curiosity became apparent from early childhood. She was educated by private tutors and scientists throughout her childhood and prepared to take over one of the family's small plantations. Even at this time, she disapproved of slavery on the planet Malta - not only did she find it an inefficient waste of resources, but she was and still is offended by the virtual importation of 'Sirian misery' to her home planet. She sees a future for Cardamine cultivation using the most advanced technology available.
This did not happen in the end because shortly after she turned 20, she fell in love with a fighter pilot ten years older than her, Mario Costa, who later became her husband. Their life together drew them to the stars, and together, they joined the military unit known as the Guardia Svizzera.
- Guardia Svizzera
Her early career in the Guardia Svizzera began on Dromedary-class freighters, and her husband kept a close watch on her from his own fighter while they flew their common routes. Together, they formed an inseparable pair and went through many dangerous, often quite close situations.
Fiorella later commandeered a Storta-class destroyer, the Amalfi, owned by the de Marco clan. She acquired it after her older cousin decided to end her military service for family reasons.
Fiorella took part in several combat operations with Amalfi, always accompanied by her husband Mario Costa. When her husband was killed in action in 828 AS, her military career with the Guardia Svizzera began to limit her, and she started her own plantation on the planet Malta with the help of her family as a backup solution in her spare moments. Once it became apparent that her plantation could support her and all her hobbies - including running Amalfi - she resigned from Guardia Svizzera and began operating independently.
- Independent
Withdrawing from the Guardia Svizzera gave her the much-needed independence to organise her own business in Malta as well as to pursue her hobbies, primarily sciences and art. At the same time, as a sign of her grief following the death of her husband, she changed her wardrobe to black and gold, a color combination that has remained her own.
Although she resigned from the Guardia Svizzera, she continued to promote Malta's interests, especially as a diplomat and negotiator, as demonstrated by negotiating a trade treaty with the Xenos in 829 AS and starting negotiations on a similar treaty with the Unione Corse in Gallia.
3. Character's Primary Vessel: The Amalfi
- Infocard
The Amalfi is a specially modified Storta-class cruiser for a longer operating radius and extra comfort for her crew. The Amalfi carries weaker armament than is usual for destroyers of the same class, and scans indicate an enlarged internal hangar for up to six fighters. The ship is equipped with improved sensors, cloaking equipment as well as modifications to reduce the sensor footprint of the ship itself. The original computer system has been replaced by quantum multiplexors with one central core and two auxiliary cores.
The Amalfi is the private ship of Capitana Fiorella Arianna de Marco and is more of a heavily armed luxury yacht than a regular warship. Fiorella uses her for her diplomatic and reconnaissance missions across Sirius so she can be spotted almost everywhere. Although the Amalfi has been involved in several raids in the past before her modifications, she is not currently involved in pirate raids.

REPORT: THE DISTRIBUTION NETWORK AND ITS EXPANSION
Author: Fiorella A. de Marco
- 1. Introduction
The purpose of this report is to map and evaluate the current state of our Network as of 05/829. The report contains mainly information based on communications from our Network's intermediaries and a few other individuals and does not contain hard economic data, and the economic side of things should be considered separately by more in-depth economic analyses.
- 2. Bretonia and Gallia
Bretonia and Gallia currently remain outside our Network primarily due to the absence of any credible local intermediaries. This is mainly due to the very low local demand for Cardamine, which gives little incentive to potential intermediaries to join our Network there.
In Bretonia, our distribution network operates to a limited extent at Trafalgar in the hands of the Junkers. However, due to the low demand so far, the trade is of limited importance. Gen'an Chrysanthemums also conducts its limited trade as they have a limited access to Bretonia.
- 3. Kusari
The Cardamine trade in Kusari is entirely in the hands of Gen'an Chrysanthemums, who take over our product from Cali and also take care of the final distribution. The Kusarian society is very conservative and has an aversion to Cardamine as to any other foreign influences, however, Gen'an reports a steady increase in demand as well as their growing influence among the younger women population. Gen'an is also actively seeking other markets for their expansion, but except for their limited trips to Liberty, without significant success.
The biggest obstacle for the Gen'an in Kusari is the local naval forces with large capital ships, against which our intermediaries have limited options, and so the Gen'an have expressed a desire for increased presence of Maltese capital ships in Kusari.
However, for all the problems with the local forces, at least according to our mediators, the distribution Network itself remains virtually untouched by the local forces.
- 4. Liberty
Liberty remains our most important and complicated market. Paradoxically, our obstacle in the region is not the police, who are easily bribed, but the Xenos and their hatred of the Junkers, the very end of our current Network in Liberty.
Our strongest intermediaries in Liberty are the Liberty Rogues, who have recently reinforced the line from Kusari with another station and increased their shipment volume through the Xeno infested Colorado. The Texas route has not experienced any major difficulties and Cardamine volume through it is increasing.
The biggest problem for us here remains the vulnerable Rochester. The Xenos have grown stronger over the last two to three decades and have also acquired new weapons, as they demonstrated last year with their battleship.
In the words of Signor Hemlocke, the main problem is the Junkers' alignment with the forces of law and that is why Rochester cannot host a significant Rogues garrison. Unless the Junkers themselves have taken their own precautions, which they have not commented on as yet and I have observed no such thing around their base, it is very likely that the station may be disabled again or even destroyed.
The Lane Hackers have not been very helpful either. The Inner Circle seems to have lost a lot of its influence and it is getting harder and harder to contact them or track their influence in Liberty. Alongside them, a new group of hackers have emerged, calling themselves SIGNET, who seem to be in ideological conflict with the Inner Circle and pose as freedom fighters. They seem to be outside the main focus of Xenos and it is questionable to what extent they will be a hindrance to us in the future.
- 5. Expansion
- 5.1. The Mollys
The theoretical candidates for our expansion in Bretonia are the Mollys, who are at war with Bretonia for independence and could benefit from additional funding and influence through Cardamine in Bretonian society. They are also at odds with our ancient enemies, the Corsairs.
However, they are also known for their pride and bluntness. Any successful contact with them should be done carefully and cautiously so that they do not feel that we are trying to use them unilaterally.
- 5.2. The Brigands
The least successful criminal elements in Gallia might also have a potential interest in distributing our product, but the problem remains the dominance of the Unione Corse in the Gallia black market and Brigands' theoretical dependence on our rival. There is also the chance that any distribution know-how could reach the Unione Corse and be used against us and our intermediaries.
- 5.3. The Xenos
Although the Xenos are one of our biggest obstacles in Liberty, they themselves have a strong interest in becoming members of our Network as they will need stable financial resources for their 'Liberty Free Republic', at least according to Cobra, and they do not care what happens to the rest of Liberty.
The Xenos have tried to negotiate a distribution deal with Malta in the past and negotiations have gone nowhere much further. They are currently offering a cease-fire once the official negotiations begin. They are also willing, once they become a part of our Network, to hunt and destroy any artifact and xeno relic smugglers in Liberty to further weaken the income of our ancient enemies, the Corsairs. They could also hunt down the Junkers' carrying these goods as well.
The Xenos quite understandably skip the Junkers for distribution of their goods, so they could serve as an alternate flow for Cardamine to penetrate the places where the Junkers have no access.
- 6. Conclusion
Currently, our distribution Network is working, and is growing dynamically in areas like Liberty and Kusari as our intermediaries gain influence in Liberty and Kusari. Rather than law enforcement, our Network is being threatened by other criminal elements vying for their share of influence in the black market and by the various mercenaries.
It is through the steady efforts of the Liberty Rogues and the Gen'an Chrysanthemums that our Distribution Network is expanding, while the Junkers and the Lane Hackers may prove to be weaknesses, or in the case of SIGNET, outright problems in the future.
Expanding our Network to include the Mollys or the Xenos, in addition to increasing the flow of Cardamine and our revenue, could also directly help us in our fight against the Corsairs and their revenue. The Brigands remain our only, but not very reliable, option within Gallia.
REPORT: THE DISTRIBUTION NETWORK IN 833 AS
Author: Fiorella A. de Marco
- 1. Introduction
Since my last report in mid-829, a multitude of changes have swept through our nation, presenting us with challenges rivaled only by our historic ordeal aboard the critically damaged Hispania. The essence of this comprehensive report is to meticulously assess the current state of our distribution network, serving as a foundation for strategic actions aimed at fortifying our influence in Sirius and securing the enduring prosperity and safety of our homeland, Malta.
- 2. Bretonia and Gallia
Despite our earnest endeavors, in which I participated as an officially appointed diplomat from Malta, the situation in Bretonia and Gallia is evolving at a painstakingly slow pace in our favor. While our presence and influence in Bretonia are significantly more robust than in the fifth House - still - in comparison with Liberty and Kusari, the demand for our Product in these regions remains somewhat marginal.
Our attempts to establish formalized trade relations following previous misunderstandings with the Gallic Brigands and Unione Corse have not borne fruit. The former's organizational instability, which manifested before formal negotiations could commence, and the latter's perceived reliance on favorable relations with the Gallic Union, which would be adversely affected by Cardamine distribution, are the primary impediments. Until we can elevate our association with the Brigands to a higher level of cooperation, our interactions with them are limited to sporadic trade and occasional conflicts.
In Bretonia, our distribution, for the foreseeable future, is confined to Trafalgar, managed by Junkers, due to the absence of other suitable intermediaries. The Gaians, owing to their alliance with the Corsairs and animosity towards us, and the Mollys, increasingly placing their trust in their renewed allies, the Coalition, are not viable options for our objectives. Given their staunch insistence on independence, even proposing Cardamine distribution is not currently a diplomatically viable strategy.
- 3. Kusari
As in past decades, the unwavering efforts and loyalty of the Golden Chrysanthemums to Malta have ensured that Kusari remains a virtually self-sustaining market for us, where our ongoing presence is unnecessary and sometimes even counterproductive due to prevalent xenophobia. The recent abolition of slavery on Malta has led to a slight cooling of relations due to the reduction in export commodities. However, I anticipate a gradual reinvigoration of our mutual trade as the Chrysanthemums gain access to the highly sought-after robotic systems from Kusari, necessary for the rejuvenation and expansion of our plantations.
Simultaneously, it would be prudent to limit our engagements with the Blood Dragons, with whom our relationship is marked by a frosty neutrality, stemming from ideological differences and their significance to the success of the Golden Chrysanthemums. In my occasional forays into Kusari over the past four years, I have engaged with several factions of the Blood Dragons. Nevertheless, their disposition towards normalizing relations with us has consistently been reticent.
- 4. Liberty
As noted in my report four years ago, Liberty remains the most intricate and dynamic market for our Product. Over the past four years, we have accomplished substantial progress in stabilizing our overall distribution network. Currently, we have two key conduits— the longstanding Buffalo-Rochester tandem and the more recently established Xeno-operated Ouray— through which Cardamine flows directly to planet Manhattan. This robust network structure has rendered us resilient to incidents such as the near-total destruction of Rochester, which had almost critically impeded our Cardamine trade in Liberty for an alarmingly extended period. The Xenos' willingness to combat the distribution of Artifacts, a source of income for the Corsairs and Hogosha, coupled with the new distribution opportunities they present, are significant assets to our operations.
Nonetheless, not all developments have been favorable, and this expansion has introduced potential diplomatic tensions, particularly with the faction of the Liberty Rogues led by the warlord known as Hemlocke, and potentially with the Lane Hackers, who maintain close relations with them.
This development, while not entirely unforeseen, is an inevitable response to the evolving dynamics of our mutual business relationships, which have been marred by disproportionate assertiveness and aggression on their part. The current scenario, however, affords us the opportunity to either penalize or reward both sides of the network based on their demonstrated loyalty or lack thereof. This strategic approach is designed to preserve stability for us and our upper-echelon clients in Liberty.
- 5. Expansion
- 5.1. The Mollys
Despite their victory in the Dublin system and their more complicated situation, they are currently not suitable candidates for Cardamine distribution in Bretonia. Their bond with the Coalition remains too strong, and their integration into our network will require a lot more effort - especially increasing all-round economic support for their movement when they get into difficulties, as well as persistent deliveries of weapons from Liberty.
- 5.2. The Brigands
After unsuccessful negotiations with Unione Corse and still irrational behavior of the Maquis, the Brigands remain our only distribution alternative in Gallia. In their favor, of course, is also the current occasional trade between our parties, as well as business relationships in the past.
- 5.3. Rheinland
Rheinland remains unexplored territory for our influence and distribution not only due to the distance from Malta but also due to the absence of suitable intermediaries - where the only potentially suitable candidates are now very hostile Red Hessians. Only time will tell if there will be any opportunities to normalize our relations with them.
- 6. Conclusion
In conclusion, the ongoing expansion and stabilization of our distribution network in Sirius remains a task of considerable complexity, necessitating a balanced and pragmatic approach. Upholding our stronghold in existing territories while seeking new opportunities is of paramount importance. The shifting dynamics in Liberty, alien Kusari, coupled with the patience-requiring challenges in Bretonia, Gallia, and Rheinland, present a landscape replete with both opportunities and risks. It is imperative that we continue to adapt, harnessing our diplomatic prowess and strategic alliances to safeguard Malta's prosperity and influence within the Sector. Afterall, our foes do not stay idle - and nor should we.
AGREEMENT: THE KEPLER ACCORDS
Maltese Representative: Fiorella A. de Marco
Xenos Representative: Damien Morreti
- 1. Introduction
The Kepler Accords is a preliminary trade agreement dealing with the Cardamine trade and other related matters between the interested families and clans of Malta, represented by Fiorella Arianna de Marco, and the Xenos Alliance cell from the LFR, represented by Commander Damien Morreti.
The agreement was verbally concluded on 11th of May, 829 A.S., and confirmed in writing on 16th of May, 829 A.S.
- 2. Contents of the Agreement
- 2.1. Mutual Non-Aggression
Both Parties shall cease offensive actions against each other and shall open fire against each other only in self-defence.
- 2.2. Trade Route
The trade route itself will run through California and Ontario to Ouray base in Colorado, where the cargo will be unloaded and resold to the Xenos for the final distribution.
- 2.3. Base Access
The Xenos bases, with the exception of Fontana Freeport, will remain inaccessible to Maltese ships at this early stage of the trade. Maltese freighters and their escorts directly involved in trade with Cardamine will have the necessary access to Ouray base in Colorado.
- 2.4. Cardamine Exclusivity
The Xenos pledge to be directly involved only in the distribution of Cardamine and not to serve as intermediaries for Malta's enemies, especially the Corsairs. This condition does not prohibit the Xenos from selling contraband obtained from destroyed or hijacked ships as this is not direct distribution, but a sale of the captured loot to fuel their further activities.
- 2.5. Dealing with Rivals
The Xenos pledge to disrupt the business activities of Malta's rivals, especially the Corsairs, and to suppress physical and economic influence in Liberty. The Xenos pledge to compete with their rivals so as not to disrupt the overall distribution and consumption of Cardamine.
- 3. Future of the Agreement
The Kepler Accords is currently only a preliminary agreement establishing the first economic ties between Malta and the Xenos, and may be superseded or supplemented by other agreements regulating relations as the importance of mutual trade grows and relations become more cordial.
- 4. Termination of the Agreement
The Kepler Accords may be cancelled by either or both parties and will terminate within seven days of notification.

ESSAY: WHY TO REBRAND CARDAMINE - GOLDEN CARDAMINE
Author: Fiorella A. de Marco
- 1. Introduction
The purpose of this essay is to document the current challenges facing our Distribution Network, particularly in relation to the reluctance of our potential customers to use our Product. Based on an analysis of these obstacles and their alignment with our long-term goals in Sirius, a new idea for our Product is then presented - distancing ourselves from established stereotypes and stigmas.
- 2. External Factors - Our Distribution Network
Our distribution has been in operation for over two centuries and has gone through several evolutionary stages of its own in that time. However, some stages of its expansion have been marred by violence from both the Liberty Rogues and our raiders, and so our Product's image is tainted by this very violence and slavery in the eyes of our potential clients. To them, becoming addicted to Cardamine means feeding the violent elements whose actions are seen daily in the local news. Our most valued clients from the highest strata cannot afford such an association with violent gangs - whether perhaps because of their warped patriotic sensibilities or the omnipresent paparazzi journalists spying on their private lives.
- 3. Internal Factors - Client's Own Perceptions
Becoming a Cardamine user brings an understandable burden to our clients that directly affects their very existence. Once they become dependent on our Product, they must receive it in regular and reliable doses. Our clients were reminded of this painful fact during the near total destruction of Rochester, and many of them died from withdrawal symptoms or switched to the inferior but, from their perspective, more reliable Stabiline. With this unfortunate event, our 'Orange Dream' has suffered a stain on its image that will take a long time to shed, and is a hindrance to our own goals.
- 4. Potential Solution: New Image - New Beginning
Not quite, but very close. A traditional marketing tool for entrepreneurs to get rid of negative feelings around their product is to change their brand image and distance it from previous failures and scandals. We need to bring something fresh and new to our market, something exclusive and unconventional - but at the same time, something safe. But how do we achieve this with a product like Cardamine?
- 5. New Product - Golden Cardamine
- 5.1. Our New Client
It is in our interest to target our new Product to the most demanding and important clientele in Houses - the highest corporate, political and military elites. They are expecting something more sophisticated than a quick 'fix' - which will take them to the heights of heaven - but then bring them back down to reality just as sharply. A new Product for such demanding clients should have milder but much longer lasting effects.
For this purpose, of course, we will need to develop an entirely new variety of our crop that will have a milder and longer lasting effect on our clients. Initial quality sensory tests of partially successful crops suggest that rather than the more intense 'Orange Dream', it will be more of a 'Yellow Dream' - which will be appropriately marketed as the 'Golden Dream' to retain the luxurious exclusivity of this Product, and the working name of the variety itself for the time being will be Golden Cardamine.
- 5.2. Safe Product
Our most demanding clientele will not become our customers if they have legitimate reasons to fear for their own existence. For this reason, both the Product itself, its use and the distribution network will have to be much safer and more seamless for our potential customers.
The most common concern, which is also associated with other addictive substances, is the risk and issue of overdose. Compared to the classic Cardamine, this risk will be reduced with our Product by the less intense experience and therefore less strain on our client's metabolism. However, this will not completely eliminate the risk of overdose, and new safer dosing devices will need to be developed for the safety of our customers, which will closely monitor the amount of our Product consumed and the user's vital signs and markers - and prevent further doses if this would lead to a life-threatening situation.
If all these measures fail, the acute overdose treatment Cardamine will still need to be included with the instructions - also available on a data card for home robotic assistants so that they can save the lives of their unwary masters. If these 'countermeasures' are included in the packaging of our Product, we will not only protect the lives of our customers, but also their potential privacy - they will not need third party medical assistance.
However, the health, anonymity and safety of our clients will have to be linked to another aspect of our new Product - its distribution network. Higher demands will be placed on our end distributors - both in terms of their demeanor and social exposure, as well as the need to keep our clients completely anonymous and to supply them with 100% reliability. There will also be a new need to set up secret distribution centres that will be able to guarantee supply to our customers even in the event of a temporary interruption of supply from space - our long term goal will be to cover a theoretical one year outage, but the initial target will be a minimum of 1 month and the next major milestones will be 3 months and 6 months.
- 5.3. New Experience
All of these measures to ensure the safety and comfort of our customers will require a considerable financial cost - and therefore not only on the price of our new Product itself, but also on the rewards for our distributors. With the higher price, we will also have to introduce higher standards and higher added value to the whole business.
A solution to the value-added issue may be to involve Outcasts who do not directly benefit from the production and sale of Cardamine - craftsmen and artisans. By involving them in the very image of our Product, we will provide our customers with a new and exclusive experience - such exclusivity itself will be the biggest attraction for the most discerning - yet it will also be our soft power in Sirius through these elites. Last but not least, we will also enable the all-round creative development of the artistically and artisanally talented part of our society through new opportunities for their application.
- 6. Conclusion
After the Rochester incident, our Distribution Network in Liberty is slowly recovering and gaining new horizons thanks to the involvement of the Xenos. However, a certain scepticism towards Cardamine, especially in terms of its safe distribution and uninterrupted supply to our clients, is hindering the promotion of our goals. This negativity will take us a long time to get rid of and will slow down our economic expansion in the region
The solution to be the creation of a new comprehensive and safer Product with a new approach to distribution and access to customers. Our goal should be to target the highest and most influential elites and regain their trust in the market. This new brand should be as ambitious, sophisticated and exclusive as possible in order to break out of the shadow of the classic Cardamine. This will be achieved through new demands on our end distributors as well as the added value of involving local Maltese artists and artisans who will creatively contribute to the style of packaging or entire themed collections.

RE: Fiorella Arianna de Marco, Main Information Page - Fiorella de Marco - 03-17-2024
IMPORTANT CLAN/FAMILY MEMBERS
Salvatore Angelo de Marco
- Archetype: Despotic yet loving family patriarch
- Date of birth: March 15, 768 AS
- Background:
In Sirius, Salvatore de Marco would likely stop at nothing to protect his family. His unwavering and firm convictions make it exceedingly difficult to change his mind unless Arianna or Fiorella try to persuade him. His departure from the typical characteristics of De Marco clan members, who are known for their pragmatism and relative moderation, is undeniable as he married into the clan, and his early years were significantly shaped by the larger and more dominant Wenceslau cartel. Not all family members approve of his behavior, and with some, he maintains only a formal relationship.
Before marrying Arianna and welcoming their first child, Salvatore was an Outcast fighter pilot. After starting a family, he rarely returned to the cockpit - only during the Revolt in 831 AS did he fly his Sabre so low that it grazed against wild grasses and protruding stones, evading slaves' captured radars and air defenses.
Apart from family matters, Salvatore takes great joy in artistic carpentry and winemaking. No home in Arca Valley is without a least a single piece of furniture adorned with his initials.
- Archetype: Family grey eminence
- Date of birth: April 8, 770 AS
- Background:
Arianna de Marco may appear insignificant compared to ambitious family members like Salvatore, Fiorella, or Julian. Unlike them, she cherishes comfort and safety, refines her vast array of artistic skills, including poetry, sculpture, music, and painting, and appears utterly uninterested in political or Sirian matters.
Yet, appearances can be misleading. Her hesitance to engage in the traditional pursuits of the Outcasts does not lessen her significance; in fact, it enhances it. Arianna's empathy and availability are rare qualities that allow her to maintain harmony within the family and clan, preventing potential discord. Lacking formal titles or duties, she becomes an inconspicuous manipulator, excelling in casual social events and family gatherings.
As previously stated, Arianna is a dedicated and multifaceted artist who dedicates most of her time beyond familial obligations to her artistic endeavors. Her impact on Fiorella is significant, counterbalancing Salvatore's attempts to shape their daughter into a warrior. Due to Arianna's guidance, Fiorella has forsaken any previous military accolades with Malta's defense forces. This shift also includes a newfound recognition of her femininity as a tactical asset.
- Archetype: Young and aspiring Outcast proving his worth
- Date of birth: October 8, 804 AS
- Background:
Born a decade after Fiorella, Julian has endeavored to emulate her path. His career reflects hers in certain aspects. Starting as a smuggler like her, Julian aimed to earn his stripes later and command a squadron for the De Marco clan. His admiration for his older cousin stemmed from her 'adventurous spirit' - as a child, he was enthralled by her travel and planetary exploration stories.
In contrast to Fiorella, Julian exhibits less propensity for pretense and manipulation, inheriting his father's straightforward approach to business. Yet, he does not possess Salvatore's propensity for violence and may be the De Marco clan's most naive and benevolent member. He has considerable experience to gain; his lofty ambitions sometimes lead him to impulsive and poorly judged decisions that jeopardize both his life and the clan's assets.
Besides his involvement in clan affairs, Julian has a genuine passion for technology and mechanics. His interest in technology and machinery surpasses that of the typical Outcast pilot. His self-taught understanding of intricate hardware and software systems is impressive, even though he may not always express or identify them accurately.
