One thing I adore about mainstreem game titles is that the multiplayer, even when it comes to running private servers, usually involve such gameplay styles which makes having any additional rules or admins to apply sanctions rather redundant.
I completely understand that in our case rules are in fact needed, because there is no ''real'' way to ''force'' people to RP. However more and more I see how people tend to deal with ingame problems by applying what is commonly known to be ''ingame consequences''.
Right now, no matter how many admins we add, it still takes months to apply any sort of sanctions. It is no wonder we take matters in our own hands. People shooting up new folk in Penny? Gather up a few friends and rape their faces. People badmouthing you? Get up a few peeps and smack them around a little. A new group doing something retarded? Hire reavers and kill them.
Now I ask you, Discopeeps, do you think we can change the actual gameplay so that we do not need a ruleslist. To have any sort of ingame action have possible IRP and OORP consequences in by itself. Leave admins for only dealing with cheaters and such. I think it would be in their own best interests if the amount of paperwork is cut down to nothing and they can spend more time ingame to deal with situations on the spot.
I cannot really offer a better example than Eve right now. Scamming, piracy, griefing, it all works perfectly well on a community and server so large. But rules in by themselves simply scare off new people. I have seen it firsthand. My friends would love to play this mod with me, but they are afraid (rightfully so) that any mistake they might make would end up with them losing hours of spent time.
As I am writing this up, I am rather tipsy, so I am probably missing some very glaring flaws in such a post. Mostly RP related. So...yeah. Flame away.

You make a lot of idiotic suggestions but this one is really good one.
However a lot more game mechanics need to be introduced- if this is made without any changes the server would stay in chaos.
Imagine 2-3 idiots re-spawning and coming back to shoot you again and again and similar things.

I read the rules once, learned what they meant, and applied 0.0 to my in-game actions.
It's a good suggestion however I fea rit may turn us into some sort of cloved of sect where elitists are the dominating force, and everyone else is treated like dirt.
In my opinion, we NEED MORE admins. Specifically, we need them patrolling the server looking out for any errors so that they can deal with the abusers when they see them.
I know it's a different game, but Ace Of Spades on buildandshoot. Com was really effective at dealing with rule breakers and what not because everyone would be communicating with each other. Say someone spots a hacker on a server, someone would record footage and get it sent to the admins right away. That person would then be put on the global ban list.
This is why I was trying to push for IRC; we need a system where we can all be communicated to help each other out.
(gonna say something controvesial here)
I believe that the anti trial by forum rule should be removed, as it reduces our capability in stopping rule breakers; it just makes the process even slower, allowing the breaker to run around freely doing as they please.
i did think is a very good idea, even suggested in the past
i don't see any hard work required toward accomplish this by scripts or better in game consequences
while we're still at it i do think Forum RP should only be a reflection of In Game RP and not a different Fantasy World ruled by players who don't even plays on those factions
*maybe later add some sort of way of conquest based on points like:
-kills a faction tag owner of a system gets point toward itself or alliance[partially done]
-build/maintain/kill a base is also rewarded with points[partially done]
-activity in a system gets rewarded with points[partially done]
now here's the tricky part and why would this force factions/players to rp and consider when making decisions:
>you only can dock on neutral systems, allied systems
>having control over IFF/ID
>you only can use civs ship line or allied ship line
So..you actually need to RP/make alliance with other faction in order to maintain your own alive, not just sit on Lore and fill sanction in order to win[as i seen some recently, yes those zoners mess *facepalm*]
People want to believe that God has a plan for them.
They don't wanna believe that anyone else does..
There is no such mechanic that can stop people being prats and idiots, it is simply impossible. You can limit the damage those people cause with mechanics such as the ID's, tech cells and rephacks but those only effect the gameplay. As an RP server, as with all RP servers, extra rules are needed to keep the social demands in check and those kinds of rules require a personal touch.
The best we can do as players, without signing up for admin of course, is to follow due process. If you see someone being stupid tell them what they are doing is wrong, if they continue write up a report and let the admins do their thing. Who knows you might get lucky and find out that person is just new to the server. Yes it can be annoying but chances are that you'll make things worse by playing into the hands of those idiots.
And a big no-no to the trial by forum, that would only cause ten times more havoc with everyone blaming each other, the witch hunts and plain vindictiveness.

I <3 U -- You somehow put the words correctly even when tipsy which i had trouble typing it.

Trust me, it will not change no matter how much rules you put in the game the community will still bend/break them. More rules then you are shrinking the fun of the game.
Quote:2-3 idiots re-spawning and coming back to shoot you again and again and similar things.
I seen many! i dont report them I just have fun re-engaging again and again. After i get tired of 'pwe-pewing' - i just cruise away and move on. Not going to waste time typing some stupid stuff from a game that others tend to abuse the rules repeatedly.
Quote:we NEED MORE admins
No we don't. Go play and have fun. If you find yourself whining of something stupid - logoff and socialize with real life friends.

Im pretty sure that gets back to his original statement where you just get some friends and beat the piss out of them constantly ingame.
It's pretty easy to not make a mistake. Just saying.
If they're scared of screwing up, that's probably because they will as they can't follow a simple list of guidelines to make your experience on the server a pleasant one. Many people here play just fine without being restricted by the rules. If you can't, you're just incapable.
I'm sorry Spazzy but any thread like this that you create is basically just a different way of you saying "**** (purposely censored) the system i'll do what I want". Ironically, people like you are the reason the rules exist. Or this server would be nothing. Admins get through sanctions eventually but they have lives. I'd hope that you have the same social capability but right now it doesn't look like it if you're that desperate to call for change on a game server. You've seen it, 2 pages of sanctions. Besides, if you want to mess around then you have more time to before you get caught, simply because they're taking so long.
