Well, you are right about BS scanner removal, but mind you folks that point was discussed before, and current state of affairs is the result of traders' *cough* complaints.

The best solution has always been:

> Rename the BS-scanner to "Extreme long range scanner"
> Enable it to be mounted by all classes (it's just an ultra-good high-tech scanner - npnp)
> Reduce scanner range to 18k
> keep the huge price tag

=> equal chances for everybody who wants to pay for that bit of advantage
=> no favouring of large transports that need no guns anyway
=> no favouring of 75 % nerfed pirate GB pirates over pure-tech GBs who would not take such a scanner
=> no disadvantage for snub pirates (snubs are disadvantaged a lot!)
=> enables LF scouts with high speed and enhanced scanner range
=> money sink open for every character (Disco needs ways to get rid of money!)

Just make it unusable for traders.

Your idea basically would cause the same problem just with lawful/pirate interaction. Meaning that pirates could always see lawfuls earlier and would be able to avoid interaction with them without even being seen by lawfuls.

Actually, this guy raises a good point.
However, as a counter argument, pirates shouldn't be going around picking fights. They're, well, pirates. It should be about stealing credits, then running away at the first sign of trouble.

I do see your concern though.

We all know that never happens though.

Just buff GB thrust speed by 15m/s.

Also remove this crazy 25k scanner thing all together. Keep it to 15k like in the old days for everyone. Hell make it 10k Big Grin

If you use Liberty as an example, you're gonna have a bad time...

And otherwise it's just the exception proving the rule, even if some pirate faction gets temporary activity boost, things sooner or later return to stagnation and inactivity.

Pavel!

I'm totally fed up with that attitude. New York and Liberty
are central gaming spots. And Pennsylvania and New York
are the very first experiences for new players. If something
gets wrong there, this should be taken serious.

To the scanners: Remove battleship scanners from transports.

B-but, the Devs are in the wrong! I should be able to put military grade battleship scanner arrays onto my transport!

And for those of us that pirate in transports would lose their BS scanner (even after having it nerfed) in favor of a snub only scanner?

Bombers have a big advantage in firepower over transports. Multiple bomber teams even more so. I say if you choose to pirate in a very fast and manoeverable ship, with torpedos or snacs, the nerf of a BS scanner makes sense. Everyone flipped out over BS scanners on snubs because it would be 'impossible' for small ships like that to generate power to get that range (see BS Scanner infocard about 'massive amounts of power' being required). So its a fair toss up at the moment, you go snub with shorter range, or can pirate in a transport or gunboat, and can still use a BS scanner for piracy with only 75% nerf. I still do so and the effect is acceptable.

This favors snub piracy only and I don't quite agree with leaning in that direction. I don't think this will guarantee interaction. As I have always supported, pirates that know their systems and shipping routes, don't need longer ranged scanners, especially in something like a bomber.

Instead there was the idea of floating a speed buff on certain snubs so they could catch up to transports. That would seem a more realistic buff than a pirate scanner. Smaller ships being faster than heavier transports seems more realistic than them getting scanning power that has already been ruled as not consistent. Transports having BS scanners is perfectly fine. Accept the disadvantages and advantages of snub piracy, or pirate in a transport and get the same fair advantage as the trader when it comes to scanner range. There is no further need to nerf the BS scanner. Its never effected me, I just sought the same advantage and now use it to level the playing field. I would like to see players take up the same attitude rather than constantly wanting to take things away from other players because they themselves can't bother try to fight harder to counter things like that.

EDIT: Honestly this happened to me last week. I was tracking a ship. Despite what most of you say, I'm usually the one with longer range than traders I go after. One I found was hard to catch up to, as I cloak when I see them. Finally I caught up to the ship later at a station (while cloaked), scanned them up close and found out they had a BS scanner, so even though I had cloaked, they saw me before I did, and still avoided me. Now, if you think what I think,

A: kudos, next time I'll have to do better. or , I"ll have to get the drop on that one faster next time, etc, then you have the proper attitude.

Thats how you get better, using the current game structure and exploit its advantages

If you think

B: OMG thats sooo unfair i mean it says BATTLESHIP ffs, I so want to force them to change their set-up and gameplay (that they worked hard for) to make it easier for me to win against them.

Then you are a horrible player and should just leave without dragging the rest of us down with you. I'm tired of seeing these threads.

Your transport was never supposed to have a battleship scanner.

No, it's not.

I'd say either (or both):

1) Get rid of BS Scanners on Transports (or make it nerf cruise speeds somehow if they do, if possible?)

2) Make a Pirate Scanner that makes has 10K Cargo Scan Range, 20K Regular Scan Range, and costs about 80M.

As Pavel already said, you can't remove battleship scanner from transports using technerf.
The only way is to make it use significant amount of cargospace.

As for "unlawful" scanner, Spyglass can be easily adapted for this role. Just like Cheetah thruster, which supposed to be build by Outcasts is available on each and every base now.
