A trade lane is a space railroad that transports ships at otherwise impossible or difficult to achieve speeds by accelerating them within an artificial gravity well, typically used within the same star system due to the relatively short range of its effects. Once it is disrupted (or the ship leaves the trade lane by “dropping out”), the artificial gravity well is reversed and (especially if the ship is in the middle of the trade lane route), the ship undergoes massive deceleration which, if not pre-anticipated and preprogrammed in the inertial dampener, could cause intense G-forces as dampening the G-forces associated with trade lane use requires re-routing most of the ship’s power to the inertial dampeners and for a short time straining it to up to magnitudes above of its typical operational capacity. A ship without capable inertial dampeners will not drop out of trade lanes safely, while there are ships (such as combat ships) with sufficient power on standby devoted to inertial dampening.

No atmosphere? GTFO.
The propeller is the greatest invention of all time.

dint thik of dat did u.
Newton's Third Law of motion:
every action has an equal and opposite reaction. 350ms speed force on big BS in whale, Big BS faces about 1m/s acceleration, poor other ship= big boom, coz BS hull stronk.
This isn't FTL but it does sound like the basis for subspace/anti-grav, which is why they are hush hush on how it actually works. How can one use EM fields to magically propel a ship? SUBSPACE tech exists, and is soon going public.
The US airforce cracked FTL and space-time inversion capability back in the 70's.
Remember, subspace fields allow ships to travel at SUPERLUMINAL speeds without time dilation effects. Its not sci-fi, thats what they want you to think. Ever see those memes of all the stuff Star Trek had on its show that we have now...well they forgot to add 'Warp' to the list.
