Planet Tangier is a young, terrestrial planet orbiting its sun at a considerable distance. It is a cold world with barely enough atmosphere to support life, still largely burning under its moderately thin crust. The planet has hundreds of active volcanoes and massive earthquakes frequenlty ravage portions of its surface. The planet has a lot of small, but easily accessible mineral deposits at the surface. Iron, Aluminum and Magnesium are mined in small quantities by the Red Hessian whenever possible, then sent up to Viernheim.
Tangier has been previously surveyed by Corsairs, before suddenly becoming part of Hessian space after the Casablanca offensive of 811 A.S., after which Hessian survey expeditions to the planet revealed several abandoned Corsair mining camps. In 816 A.S. multiple small expeditions were launched to the planet, this time in order to occupy existing and construct new mining facilities. Plans were made to build a docking ring, but with little effect due to shortages of supplies necessary to initiate construction. The mining colonies on Tangier are supplied using small atmospheric shuttles, who bring down food and water, and ship up the raw minerals mined.
Tangier is a dangerous colony to work in. Massive earthquakes and volcanic eruptions are frequent on the planet, causing many mining camps to be lost. Still, the Red Hessians have little choice, as the raw materials they gather here are desperately needed to construct the new capital warships for their cause. The amount of people on the surface varies, but is generally around 5.000 miners.
