Out of Role Play

From Discovery Wiki
Jump to navigationJump to search

Out of RolePlay, OoRP for short, is when a player on the Discovery RP server "drops" out of the character they are meant to be portraying. OoRP behaviour can be classified into many things, the most common being:

  • Using equipment that the character the player is portraying would not have access to.
  • Landing on a base that the character the player is portraying would not have landing rights for.
  • Attacking factions which the character the player is portraying should not be attacking.
  • Using language that is inappropriate to Freelancer Roleplay.

OoRP behavior and language is severely disliked in the Discovery Community. It is recommended to keep OoRP language to private comms if the use of it is unavoidable.

OoRP Language

OoRP language is most prominent in the New York System, which is also the "starting system" of the Discovery Mod.

It is usually heard to come from players who:

  • Have not read the forums.
  • Are not used to the intensity of Discovery RolePlay.
  • Are incredibly bored.
  • Are intoxicated.
  • Are tired.

Sometimes, it can be a combination of the above factors.

Common examples of OoRP Language Include:

  • "nomad wpes r teh uBeRpWnZ0rZ!!!!!"
  • "what's the best ship?"
  • "pvp?"
  • "lol"
  • "Are you getting lag?"

Markers for appropriate OoRP

Anything said OoRP in chat, can be marked with "//" before the text, to validate it's use. It is necessary to note that the use of these markers does not make the language used any less OoRP and excessive use of OoRP language can detriment the experience of other Discovery players, as well as the user who is using OoRP language. An important thing to note, is that excessive OoRP chat use can and usually does result in a successful sanction.
