In space, few environments are as deadly as those encountered by miners; intractable instabilities in asteroids can lead to sudden explosions of rocks when exposed to pressure, resulting in massive chain reactions of flying debris weighing in the hundreds on tons and pockets of frozen elements that suddenly roar to life in a violent explosion of light and heat.
Of the hellish places men trod to turn the wheels of industry, few are as nightmarish as the sulfured diamond fields of Rheinland. Given the intense environment necessary to create diamonds, the vessels designed to scout those fields, and to thwart the vessels of those who comb them looking for prey, provoked the evolution of an exceptionally hardy vessel. With redundant sensor and propulsion systems, the ship is designed to remain operational following multiple impacts which would prove catastrophic to many other vessels of the same weight class.
With top notch offensive and defensive capabilities, the design was quickly snatched up by mining companies looking for a vessel designed to operate in any environment that could be conceivably thrown at it.
