The Chanai biodome project is often regarded by many within the Golden Chrysanthemums to be of critical importance to their organisation, providing the vast majority of the necessary food supplies to the growing Sisterhood population, in addition to the schools and nurseries for the young children.

Beginning construction in 809 A.S., after meeting with Synth Foods representatives and signing a secret agreement to covertly assist Synth Foods within Kusari in exchange for a number of biodomes to support their organisation and increasing their pressure on the Farmers Alliance forces in Kyushu, Chanai has been instrumental in allowing the Sisterhood forces to drastically increase the scope of their operations within Kusari, building up their manpower base to begin to rival even the Blood Dragons.

The occasional raids against the installation by the Farmers Alliance and the Hogosha have resulted in some delays in the past, with the worst setback occurring in 812 A.S. at the Battle of Chanai, when Farmers Alliance bombers broke through the Golden Chrysanthemum defence line and fired on the central biodome. The biodome was completely destroyed and over two thousand Sisterhood workers were killed, including an unspecified number of children. The attacking Farmers Alliance ships were all destroyed, but the setback was costly, and Chanai was finally completed in 816 A.S., two years behind schedule. It is because of that battle that the previously respectful animosity between the Golden Chrysanthemums and the Farmers Alliance cemented into a feeling of implacable hatred and loathing.

After Chanai was finished, a large number of people moved to live onboard the station, relocating from Morioka and Takada Shipyard. An extensive entertainment complex and Cardamine storage depot was also built into Chanai to accommodate Golden Chrysanthemum pilots who are recovering from injuries or taking a relaxing break from the frontlines. Almost all of the Sisterhood's schools and medical facilities are located here, and it is chiefly for this reason that many families call Chanai their home.
