Santigo Benitez was a prominent member of the Corsair Benitez Family, and Don of the familia from 758 A.S. to his death in 779 A.S.. A highly respected commander and politician. Named after the first century semi-mythical founder of the Benitez familia, Don Juan-Santigo Alvarez, Santigo's time as Don is today considered to have been a golden age for the organisation; a time during which Benitez influence grew significantly.

Career

Assuming the role of Don at a relatively young age, Santigo's early career was guided extensively by the experienced and well-respected Praetor Juan-Carlos Benitez, whom Santigo's own son would later be named after.

Feeling a duty to Corsairs across the empire's territory, Don Santigo vastly increased the familia's military role during his tenure. Though territorial gains made during this period are credited to Don Santigo and other leaders of the Empire during this era, some modern Corsair historians argue technological breakthroughs, particularly the development and adoption of the M10 class Titan Very Heavy Fighter, were largely responsible for the military successes of this period.

The militarisation of the familia during Santigo's tenure included expansion of the familia's M26 Gunboat fleet, and the controversial fortification of the newly discovered Omicron-94 system.

Santigo Benitez died a hero's death in 779 A.S. during an intense battle against a fleet of Bounty Hunters. With no apparent heirs for consideration, he was succeeded by his trusted Praetor, Rivas Benitez.

Personal Life

Like many leading Corsairs, Santigo chose to keep much of his private life entirely private. Santigo is now known to have had a relationship with a Cretian barmaid, Alicia Jiminez, which resulted in the birth of twins. Decades later, his son, Carlos would also lead the familia.
