Description

The HellFire Legion was born in the fires of war, Drake Thastus a soldier for Liberty was double crossed by the Admiralty of the Liberty Navy. The Liberty Navy killed ten of his comrades who'd formed his old commando unit, he and John Kyle survived and swore revenge. Drake was saved by an officer on board his ship, he intercepted the kill order and Drake pushed the would be assassins out the airlock. His ship, the "Ragnarok" retreated into the Magellan system after dispatching a Liberty Dreadnought. The prototype, Spyglass ship was able to track Liberty Navy movements well enough to avoid them.

There was still a traitor in his midst, an officer still loyal to the Liberty Navy sent out a distress call to the Liberty Fleet. Giving away the Ragnarok's position was the worst thing he could have done. More than the Liberty Navy Responded, the Lane Hackers heard the call and ultimately saved the fugitive commander. This began a new Era in galactic history. The Lane Hackers offered the system of Vespucci to the renegades as a safe haven. Drake had his people begin building stations in the system to reinforce the Hackers.

As time went on the Liberty Navy began to experience more desertion than ever. These deserters flocked to the Newly formed HellFire Legion. Liberty Cruisers began to provide the back bone for Thastus's fleet. This did not heavily affect the Liberty Navy at first, they simply dismissed the Legion as a mere terrorist organization. They were wrong, it was the battle of California Minor that brought things into focus for Liberty, three of their Battleships were destroyed along with two of their cruisers. The amount of ships damaged was even greater. Legion casualties were limited to a single Gunboat. Whose crew was unharmed.

After a while the Legion began to befriend like minded organizations. The Helghast were the first allies they had, and one of the most loyal. This alliance served them well, however the Legion was doing most of the support. Being that it was far larger, however Helghast ships were instrumental in several key victories.

The real defining alliance however was the HF/AW alliance. The Asgard Warriors and the HellFire Legion became close allies, working hand in hand on multiple fronts. With the Corsair campaigns breaking out all over the Omicron Systems Legion ships were called upon by their Asgard allies to defend Omicron Theta and the Freeports in the system. And when the AW had enough they went on the offensive against the Corsairs with Legion ships providing fire support. The Asgard Warriors paid this debt with their fierce support against the forces of Liberty.

The alliance was tested when the Bretonian Armed Forces declared war on the Legion. The BAF were the allies of the Liberty Navy. And when the Bretonian forces attacked the Asgard Warriors and the Helghast came to the Legion's aid. However these would not be the last enemies. Because the Legion offered support to the Asgard Warriors they provoked an even more fearsome foe. The Phantoms, the Warriors' greatest opponent. The HF/AW alliance shined brighter than ever in their mutual defense of each others home systems.

As fate would have it the Phantoms would not be the last organization to declare war on the Legion. However when Drake Thastus left the Legion his successor Denelo Mori abolished the successful alliance. Drake's whereabouts are still unknown. The true cause of the Legion began to falter, and this was not helped by the departure of Denelo Mori. With Denelo gone the Legion became a shell of what it once was.

It went from a terrifying fleet that held Liberty in Fear to a band of angry guns.
