my point being, if these people are not going to learn the skils required to see that they get these things then why should they have them.
these requests should be absolute minimal work for the dev team. not saying "i want this for my RP please make it for me thx" but rather, "id like this for my RP ive done all of the things required" then wait for approval or not if something doesnt meet criteria.

You have a point here. Firstly, if this going to be a unique ship, you wont need to think, that it could screw balance. No selling points, because, it's unique.
Also, this could work for good to Disco, because, if player worked himself for his ship (not just lolpowertradepowerminingbeggingformoneynpcfarming) he won't think twice, but triple or quad times, before doint something, which could resoult in loosing his toy.
Even if Hidamari is quite right here the Devs wont play ball.
AD explained his point and he is right for himself even if it look s idiotic to the general public.
If one does want to do something he does not have to do it, if the Dev team is too lazy to do the grinding then they does not deserve their position of power in the community- it is two-edged sword after all.
So their simple solution is to keep the power while minimizing the grinding, the results of this are quite easy to track there: http://www.flserver.de/
The unique ship issue can be solved if the Devs give up their total dominance in controlling the Mod content and create two-layer development where they serve as quality/balance control only.
However if they do so they loose their power and significance in the community.
It is up to them to decide because they do the said grinding that none else cares to do or at least they say so.
I say that none else is allowed to do the grinding/modding because they power entity that cannot be bothered with such pathetic things like 2-3 years faction development. So it is power over pixels kinda fight.
As result the players cannot be bothered to play their mod and none wins.

Ah I had folks to do it all yes, but stopped after I was told absolutely no not ever.
But... times have changed, maybe it's time for an SRP update...

but not more ships than i have imagination. Increased complexity is good. Corsairs snubline is... risible. Probably the last remaining vanilla VHF in the game. It's so bad that we now hold competitions to see not who wins the most dog-fights, but who loses slowest. If there were 10 ships to choose from (skinlancered), then our enemies would have more of a challenge.
At the moment, disco is a bit boring. Gallia isn't exciting enough for someone who fought through the bret-kusari war (flying a solo OP ship against a group of templars gets really dull after a while).
Dev's complain that the player count is going down. So, here is a short sharp lesson.
1. Gallia is truly an awful idea.
2. SRP's should come back
3. Guard systems are a waste of space. No-one goes there, as there are no missions, and the prices are lower than in the vanilla systems. delete every system that doesn't have missions, and move the bases to the far corners of the vanilla system.
4. Bring back Barges. they were removed, and then we had a hacked server. funny that.
5. most importantly relinquish artistic control. Developers doing all the coding, balancing, bug-fixing AND the storyline - it's no wonder it takes eleventy billion years for another mod to come out - you guys are simply working too hard for a limited reward.
Make Disco fantastic again. Shrink the number of systems to increase the likelihood of interactions outside of planned battles and let us feel that what WE do is also important. Let us evolve faction politics around again, and let the mod reflect that (more things like the OC civil war). We already know that what you do is important. But you're doing too much, and the cracks are showing, and the player count is reflecting this. Having a storyline forced upon us isn't as engaging as knowing that out own actions will contribute to the direction of our chosen factions, and to the mod as a whole.
Subcontract the story-line to those who have a talent for writing, rather than giving it to the people who have a talent for construction; the baker of bread shouldn't be the maker of sandwiches, the shop assistant, the marketing manager, the purchaser and the investor relations manager, especially when he has over 150 shops and sells more that 225 different types of bread.
I agree with Coin. The gallia story is not so good. Also too many empty systems. The less systems the nore fun and iteraction. Also having unique ships...I don't know about that. It would need a damn good RP if a individual lone miner comes up driveing a huge Planet destroyer class ship. I do agree on faction request unique ships, like LSF creating some sort of stealth fighter or Order a new anti-nomad battleship. Individual unique ships is not that good ideea, but with some good RP, damn good RP maybe yes.
