Battleship Kolleda was scheduled to be launched in 810 AS, but Unioner raids on Oder Shipyard delayed the Kolleda’s frontline service for years. During its initial time in rear-line service, the battleship was used as a training ship for the new-found Kolleda tactics school, with many of Rheinland Military’s finest having undergone command training aboard the half-built Kolleda, in a rumoured attempt to emulate the professionalism of Liberty’s West Point academy. Lessons hard-learnt in the 80-Year and Nomad wars influenced an entire generation of officers. A common rumour in the Rheinland military is that the command officers trained on the Kolleda harbour rigid, almost imperialistic, beliefs. To the crew of the Kolleda, the doctrines of the ancient Imperial Navy remain alive.

The Kolleda’s first tour of duty came during the post-war jump gate crisis. The Kolleda was positioned close to the Hamburg gate in the Hudson system, serving as a base for repair crews openly, and quietly as a mobile listening post near the Liberty border. The proud Kolleda battlegroup performed basic trade regulation duties, brought about by the ceasefire of 823 AS.

Armistice evolved into lasting peace. Under concerns by the Admiralty that the crack battlegroup was going to waste on patrol duties, the Kolleda was relocated at the behest of the MND to the heart of the Thuringia system. Training duties were the order of the day, but neo-Imperial officers of the Kolleda frequently clashed with their shipmates, maintaining an interservice rivalry with the agents of Weimar.

Tensions with Kusari rushed the Kolleda’s deployment to the Sigma systems. Thirsty for a true theatre of war, and keen to showcase their skill, The Kolleda’s battlegroup mounted cruise-and-fade raids against the Kusari navy and the GMG, in utter contrast to the blunt tactics of previous Rheinlandic wars. Lead by the implacable Rear Admiral Jürgen Lindauer, the former head of the Kolleda Tactics School, the aggression of the battlegroup stunned strategic planners. Lindauer displayed the effectiveness of his men to the Rheinland media, using the opportunity to air his personal grievances with the GMG. Lindauer painted an image of the GMG as opportunists, manipulating Rheinland and Kusari alike for corporate power. Questions were raised as to Lindauer’s true motivations, but the Rheinland military remains unwilling to investigate the Kolleda’s officers.

It is rumoured that the Kolleda battlegroup are victims of their own success. Unwilling to make a hero of the Imperialists, the Rheinland government denied repeated requests from Lindauer to deploy the Kolleda to Honshu, out of the Admiral’s suspected desire to strike Aomori Station. With a fresh Sigma treaty drawn up between Kusari and Rheinland, the Kolleda has been slow to withdraw from the border system. There are those who believe anti-GMG elements are collaborating with Lindauer to achieve an unspoken vendetta, deep in the Sigmas. Many of the officers of the Rheinland Navy who fought alongside Lindauer have returned to Rheinland after the war, and are rumoured to have taken his zeal home with them.
