Early Life
Joe Smith was born on the Universal Large Train USV Fort Knox in 782 AS as it was passing through the Magellan system. At the age of 14 he became the gunner for the rear turret. At the age of 18 he applied to the LPI Academy, while his brother Kevin stayed on the Knox. Joe did this because he had seen the LPI save there transport a lot over the years, and wanted to protect other ships.
In the LPI
Joe started off as a ground cop on Manhattan, working the night shift at Police Plaza. Eventually he became an air patrol cop, then a SWAT Officer, and participated in several drug busts. It was at this time he took advanced training for the use of "Backshot" shotguns. Eventually, after an enormously successful drug bust in 810 AS, he was promoted to the space arm, and received a Liberator fighter stationed on Fort Bush.
After several years he was promoted to Sergeant in 815 AS, survived "The Great Shakeout", the retirement of a Chief, the firing of another, and participated in the investigation of Chief Roger Williams' assassination. He was there when Deputy Chief Karl Agathon come back after a two week disappearance with a captured Outcast Gunship. Soon after this he was promoted to Lieutenant, it's rumored that the only reason he was promoted was Chief Myers' figured they needed an Lt, and flipped a coin. Most recently he participated in "The Radclyyfe Incident", which included the Battle of Fort Bush, in which the LPI were nearly charged with corruption, saved only by a timely call from the Chief to Sergeant Vincent Price.
